Guys,

I hear it all the time, how the sigma trigger is awful. The pull is too long, it feels like a DA, too heavy etc.....

Okay a good friend of mine is a US Custom Agent. The were just switched from Glock to the H&K P2000. WOW!!! Harder and longer than any Sigma!!!!!!! It really feels like you have to pull it a mile!

I was shocked, he is a good shooter and told me he barely qualified with the gun. (Of course it was the first time he fired it, not a good idea), thinking it is an H&K it should be good. No it is not!!

Don't know about the H&K - but the Sigma trigger is truly awful - at least the two that I've shot.

Now I have an M&P with some trigger work by Burwell Gunsmithing - that is nice.

I don't have a problem with the sigma trigger. It has just made me a better shooter. There was a gentelman that had a good exercise about putting a coin on top of the gun and that is a very good exercise that works. I hope he reads this cause I want to say thanks.

It seems there was a problem with the early Sigmas. I've had 3 different friends who'd owned them. They all experienced the same situation...initially the pistol shot fine, the trigger was "okay." After about 500-1000 rounds, it began to take a greater and greater effort to pull the trigger, like 20 or more pounds of pressure. I happened to have shot 2 of them, and it felt like the plastic trigger was going to break, when the gun would finally discharge. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Apparently, S&W has addressed this problem in the later Sigmas, because I haven't heard of anyone experiencing that lately, and all of the more recent Sigma shooters seem quite happy with their pistols.

Good triggers make great shooters.

Sigmas make great marksman.

I never really thought about it like that.

That must be the reason why I'm so good shooting my M&P.

I really didn't have a problem with the Sigma's trigger until I bought my M&Ps. Now my gun is at Smith and Wesson so they can do something with the trigger.

You're welcome!
I kid my students that they have to give me the quarters they shake off in dry firing. ;)

I don't think the Sigma's trigger is "bad." It's different is all. The more I shoot it, or even dry fire it, the better it gets. I had a Kel-Tec, P-11, that was the same way, only it was longer, and heavier.

the Sigma trigger is truly awful

It always amazes me how people will come to the Sigma section of this forum just to get in a dig like the one above. I don't like Pepsi, but somehow I manage to stay away from posting that at the Pepsi forum. I also manage not to post how great Coke is. Someone here once said that if you cannot stand the trigger on a Sigma, then maybe you need a hand exerciser or you need to toughen up a little (or a lot). Now I am going to go drink an ice-cold delicious & refreshing Coca-Cola and dry fire my SW9E a few times.

I think the sigma trigger system is a very safe design, especially for carry or home defense. I like it allot!

I don't care much for the internet cowboys that bash other peoples guns.

No matter what gun you buy; as long as you like it, I'm happy for you.

Agreed - but this is not a Sigma forum - it's a S&W forum. If you are quoting me, please quote the rest of my post: "Now I have an M&P with some trigger work by Burwell Gunsmithing - that is nice."

I'm drinking Coke and liking it. If I don't like Diet Coke - that's my prerogative :)

I own more S&W's than any other make in my collection. Stating an honest opinion on the Sigma trigger does not mean I'm bashing anyone's choices of guns - if you like it, then carry and shoot it.

DRY FIRING
I was raised not to dry fire as it "will hurt the gun" but my Dad who was on Iwo Jima spent hours dry firing his 03 Springfields and I know Ruger (who are they?) says you can dry fire the Vaquero's.

On Smiths is there a way to tell when a handgun is ok to dry fire? It sounds like it is ok to dry fire my Sigma SW9VE,
But what about my pre 17 22?

If it has a hammer nose, then I would assume no dry firing, if it doesn't (my pre 17 has some kind of square block on the hammer) is it ok?

Actually this section IS the Sigma forum. That's why when you look at the top of the page it says "Smith & Wesson Sigma Pistols".

LOL
My Sigma isn't hard to shoot at all, and in fact isn't any tougher than my Glock.

I'm used to J-Frame DAO revolvers....
So the trigger pull doesn't bother me a bit...
Just need to smooth it out...lose the gritty feel...
Maybe I should shoot it more often...

Sigmas are cool. If I don't own one, so what. There are many handguns that I do not own. Some of them are simply beyond my means. Some do not meet my needs. Some just don't suit me. But it is some indication of immaturity for anyone to come to a forum such as this and criticize those who enjoy the very firearm for which the form is named. I like Glock pistols. There are folks who can't stand them, but I like them. I don't see the sense in bad mouthing someone eases choice. Sincerely. brucev.

After re-reading this thread, I had to pull mine out of the nightstand and dry fire it a few times.

It's better than peanut butter & jelly!:)

Hey Bruce - since you are apparently aiming at me - I did not "criticize those who enjoy the very firearm". I did not criticize anyone - I made a honest statement of opinion that the Sigma trigger is lousy out of the box. No need for a personal attack based on my opinion.
