I have a new to me 66-2. I understand that chamfering the cylinder holes is basically "smoothing" the edges of the holes. What I would like to know is does chamfering also recess the holes? If not, and I do not think so, are their gunsmiths out there that offer this service? Furthermore, is it safe to do to a non recessed cylinder, i.e. a cylinder from the mfg that was not recessed. Thanks for any and all info.

Chamfering is different than recessing. It's simply an easing of the 45 degree edge of the hole.
You can't recess a non-recessed cylinder, at least not without major modifications. You'd never get a good primer strike.

I may not have understood your question at first look. You were not asking if you can recess a non-recessed cylinder, were you?
To clarify, you CAN chamfer a non-recessed cylinder.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I was wondering if a non recessed cylinder could be recessed.
As for the chamfering of cylinders, is it similar to magwells being beveled for ease of magazine insertion? In this case ease of say speedloaders.

If you did have non recessed chambers recessed, you should be aware that certain bullet styles may prove to be too long when used in the newly recessed chambers.
