Just called Smith:

As I suspected the GVE's and Allied Forces have been discontinued!

I tried to get him to give me the real scoop on the VE's, but he held his ground and stated that the sigma was not going to be discontinued. His wording leads me to believe my original thoughts that they will go away through attrition.

I also asked him to clear up any mag rumers, and he said that the SD mags are indeed different from the sigmas. I know most of us already knew that, but I wanted clarification.

Well when I click on the Sigma Section of their website, all I get is a Generic Error, and nothing loads. As it appears now, most of their website links are not working. Just as upset that there doesn't appear to be anymore 3rd Gens. :(

I guess that doesn't surprise me. I think you're right about the Sigma going the way of attrition too. Doesn't make business sense to have two similar products in a similar price range. Especially when one of them has a less than stellar reputation (although no longer deserved). I am glad I picked up my SW9E when I did, but I am betting there will be a lot of very low priced SW9VE's on the market in the next few years.

Redesigning the trigger system, changing the look and even coming up with a new magazine is just another way of separating it from the Sigma. But we all know it's just Sigma 3.0, which is a good thing in my opinion. I'll buy one.

I'll buy one also (SD9).

But, I would like to get another sigma to have a pair before they go away.

Oh there'll be an Allied Forces all right.

The SD Has improved to meet the needs and military bubgets of developing allied nations who would otherwise buy Glocks written all over its improved design.

I suspect the SD will be S&W's biggest overseas seller since they saved the company by sellig break over revolvers to Czarist Russia.

Thanks Lee,

The mag thing sucks but O well. I think I still will buy one.

Sigmas were being issued to the Afghan Police and Defense forces a few months ago.
My son was looking for help in overcoming some reliability problems with the ones they were using as training weapons.

Guess I will have to hurry to get a SW40GVE to go along with my Allied Forces 9 sooner than planned. Love the 9 so I have been wanting a green 40. I figure the green will make it easier to tell one from the other quickly. Just wish they had a black slide. Maybe I will just have to wait and pick up a sd40 instead. Or maybe just get both. Thanks S&W you just cost me another $800... ;)

So worst case, they drop the Sigma and replace it with the SD. What's the problem?

Just wish they had a black slide.

They do.

Nobodies mentioned it yet while dwelling on the SD's frame simiarity to the Sigma...But once one rotates the SD in S&W's 360° veiw on their website, what jumps out at me is what appears to me to be a longer and substantially more robust ejector stuck in the side of that redesigned frame.

This new ejector design may be much more important to future overseas and domestic sales than whether or not the frame cosmetics look like Sigma.

The only difference in the Allied Forces and the VE was Melonite on the slide and the SD's got the Melonite over stainless thing covered.

I really wanted a GVE when I bought mine and looked for months locally to find one, but couldn't. I ended up getting the standard VE. I really like the looks of Dark Earth M&P too.

Does this mean GVE's and AF's are collectors items now? You all know how this works-just like after the crappy artist dies.It is strange that a pistol that nobody wanted yesterday is being searched for today.Good hunting and keep your hand on your billfold.

OK,, I will have to get a .40 Sigma.

Will just skip SD and go straight for a M&P 45.

The SD40 holds 16+1 while the M&P 45 only holds 10+1. The M&P is also about 5 ozs. heavier. I think I may like the SD40 more for those reasons. The 45's have a one stop shot at 96% while the 40 is at 94%. I'll take 17-40's over 11-45's any day.

45 ACP Stopping Power

I never could understand why people want 9mm and .45. My theory is have 1 caliber that is the best choice, and the best choice for me is .40. Right now I have about 500 rounds I keep on hand but as prices come down and I pick up extra brass I plan to keep 1000 loaded to make for fun rainy days. I can't imagine the extra cost of having to have 1000 9mm and 1000 45 on hand.

Actually, it's the 9mm SD9 that has 16 + 1. The .40 SD40 has a capacity of 14 + 1. Which is still a more than workable hand full of .40.

As. to the different magazine question. I suspect it's the same old 2nd gen Sigma mag body and spring with a new M&P style base plate. I wouldn't be suprised if the various mag extentions meant for M&P mags would work on the new SD mags.

45 ACP Stopping Power

Well, 96% for 1-shot stopping power-- 11 Rounds-- so 10 Bad guys going down . . . If 11 rounds of .45 ACP will not handle the situation, I don't need 17 .40's-- I want track shoes to get as far away and as fast I can go. :D
