my stock has a small rubber plug in the end of the stock that is accessible when the stock is fully compressed. I pulled it out and it was covering a small cylinder shaped compartment. is this meant for storage of small items?

Yup, it's a small storage compartment they put there since the .22 doesn't exactly need a buffer spring.

Unfortunately, S&W seems to have left that little feature out of the manual, along with a host of other things.

wait there is supposed to be a plug?? Mine didnt come with one. Can you post a pic or something?

While you're on the subject of hidden stuff on the 15-22, will they accept a standard A2 stock? I'm not a fan of the telescoping stocks (and yes I own one) and am talking myself into a 15-22. Could I replace the stock?
Thanks, Pecos

Mine had that small rubber plug but when I go shooting, it always seems to work its way out. When I am leaving home I always find it on the floor.
Just recently I noticed that it went missing.
Doesn't seem to be secured in there very well
Those of you that have not found the plug might mean it worked its way out at one of your shooting sessions.

Mine would fly out the back of the tube every time I shot, so I stuffed the tube with a battery for the red dot and a bunch of ear plugs. Now it doesn't fly out and I always have extra ear plugs.

This is a picture of the end of the tube with the stock off so you can see it better. You still probably can't tell much, but there is a rubber stopper and the tube is hollow.

Here's one for you guys..Whats the best tacti-cool piece of equipment you can stow in there? Lifesavers, road flare, toilet paper...

Someone asked if a standard M16A2 stock would fit.

No. The lower receiver extension needs to be round, not have a large ridge on the bottom. It will take the "milspec" aftermarket telestocks though.

Such as?
It took a while for me to "discover" this compartment. I'm wondering what else I may have missed.

Not really features, but the manual didn't seem to cover quite a few things IMO. For example, S&W brags about the 15-22's ability to use mil-spec accessories, but it doesn't cover how to install a new stock, grip, etc. I know everything's fairly straightforward, but to someone new to firearms like myself, it would've been nice instead of having to consult this forum's search tool :D

(and scuds, you forgot about rolls of Mentos :p )

*ninja edit: and I'll see if I can't get a good picture of the plug tonight.

Here's a few pictures put together to show exactly where this storage area is and and what you can do with it.

HA HA ear plugs would be good in there, but nothing hard as it would annoy me to hear something rattling around inside the stock

Mine would fly out everytime I shot also. I took out the plug and wrapped it once with electrical tape. Now it's snug as a bug in a rug.

I know all of the magpul products have pretty good instructions for all of there products. I don't see S&W needing to supply instructions since they dont even off the upgrades.

Caution, lost mine at the range first time I shot the gun, never realized it was gone until I got home(not a very tight fit ). so check the the plug every so often when shooting

I didn't even know I had the plug until you guys mentioned it - thanks for the heads up. Fortunately, mine doesn't pop out.

I've got a Boresnake in mine. My MOE stock keeps the plug covered so I couldn't lose it unless I put forth an effort.

i ended up putting some q-tips and a pair of disposable ear plugs in there. Wrapped it once with electrical tape as well since it started to pop out when shooting.
