Laser Engraving

Thinking about having SW do some laser engraving on my 686P. Anyone info, opinions, pics? I'd prefer traditional engraving but the cost puts it out of reach.

IMHO lazer engraving is cheap and looks cheap. Either save up the money and have it done right or leave it like it is. My 2 cents.

When I think of laser engraving I liken it to pressed checkering. Both are a cheap imitation of beautiful hand crafted work that requires skill, training, dedication and time. Or maybe it's more like comparing a beautiful woman and an inflatable doll.

Well, folks, you've reinforced what I knew in the back of my mind. Guess any engraving will wait until the gun budget can stand the real thing. Thanks for saving me the $$.

I believe the comments about laser engraving wearing off all depends on depth. I haven't had any laser engraving done as of yet, but I've done some research and it all depends on the depth that it's done in. After all, when you remove sufficent material, just like any hand engraving, it doesn't rub off.

The "lazer" engraved .44 magnum and the S&W logo are GONE from my old 629 mountian gun. RUBBED off WORE off WIPED off gone.
