did a search but didn't come up with anything that was specifically designed for the ncstar mark III tactical 3-9x42. Doesn't really make sense why they'd make built in caps for the armored version and not ones for the regular version. Anyone come up with anything yet?

you can find universal ones on midway as long as you know what the size specs are. Or try getting them from ncstar customer service. How do u like the scope?

I was thinking about contacting them. I actually haven't received it yet. Got it on amazon for $104 with free shipping. Should be here next week. I was using a BSA red green blue dot. Ended up returning it. The dot almost completely covered a 3" target at 20 yards and started losing zero pretty easily. I'll post how it shoots when I get it :D

Why would you want flip up lens caps? They just block your line of sight. Rotate them so they flip down out of the way and not block your vision for acquiring targets.

If you're concerned about every inch of peripheral in a combat situation leave the caps at home.

The caps traditionally flip up for rifle scopes, they would touch the bolt or fall into the grip area on a hunting/sniper rifle if they flipped down.

Is this the MkIII that has the slanted front hood? I doubt they make flip caps if it's that more ACOG-styled version rather than more traditional.

Definitely sounds like something Chuck would say

Take your scope to a gunshop that carries butler creek flip-ups.
My dealer fitted my ncstar with a #27 for the front and a 3a for the rear.
Butler creek has since changed their sizing codes which no longer makes
sense. It's best to actually physically fit them onto your scope.
Good luck! 586L-Frame

ok just to be clear, I'm talking about the slanted ACOG style. The only reason I want flip caps is because I hate the banded cap type that comes with it. Not a big fan of fumbling around with it and then having to find a place to put it. Much more simple just to flip it. I'm not to concerned about peripherals since I still haven't found a place to run drills. I suppose I'll have to take 586L's advice and find a shop with a selection. That'll be like finding a needle in a hay stack. Sacramento is the worst area in CA when it comes to gun stuff

I'm in Sacramento. I bought the scope at TDS Guns and found the Butler Creek flip-ups at Just Guns on Watt & Auburn.

I think I know where that is. Just moved here a few months ago. Still trying figure out where everything is. Thanks 586L. I'll have to stop in and check them out. Out of curiosity, do you know of any gunsmiths in the area? Trying to avoid shipping my rifle out for barrel threading. Everyone I've talked to seems to think it's illegal even though it's a rimfire.

The only gunsmith I know in town is Gary Thiry.
He's been around since the 80's.
He recently moved in with Just Guns.
Expensive $$$.

I have no knowledge on the legality of threaded rimfire rifle barrels
in California. More than likely are illegal here.
Post on Cal-Guns, someone should know.

hmmm... might be better off just shipping it to belt fed then. Everything I've read about barrel threading being illegal only applies to pistols and centerfire rifles. Rimfires seem to be excluded from most of the "evil" laws with the exception of autos, supressors, and high caps. I'll check them out anyway.

glad you asked this question as I was just thinking the other day of getting some flip up caps for my Mark III

I have used flip up caps on my hunting rifles for over 30 years and never had a problem with restricted visibility, I don't remember what brand I used but when they flipped up they laid down flat on the top of the scope. generally once I am looking through the scope the placement of the caps does not make much of a difference.

Although it might not be eye candy pleasing,
We use a rubber band to hold acog standard covers from falling off. Could use that or ziptie
Flip them off when acog needed and let bands hold them in place.
Acog is alot of ruggedness for that .22.
But hey, my 10/22 now sports a Leupold 3-9 tactical (sold rifle it was on)

If it's a trijicon, those are built very strong but come at a premium price.
Dont have experience with other brands.
