My SW9VE Review

Made it back to the range and put 200 more rounds through my new SW9VE. This gun is so sweet. Not even a hint of any reliability issues. The only thing I have to say that's even remotely negative is that the first trigger pull after a week of being holstered was a little stiffer than the rest. Not enough difference to matter in normal defense situations but just something to keep in mind if that first shot needs to be a pinpoint shot. Bottom line is I still love this gun.

You still love this gun? Are you crazy?? Just joking. You are now part of a silent majority of satisfied Sigma owners that just have to endure the criticisms of people who don't share our love and appreciation for a great gun.

200 more rounds through the sigma this morning.

It just keeps getting sweeter! Just gave her a bath; she's resting comfortably in the nightstand.

Just got back from the range with my new Sigma and new M&P9C

The 9c has a light trigger but it was scattering shots, the felt recoil was about the same.

I am not a great shot but I have fun.

The top target is the Sigma the bottom the M&P9c

Looks like you had fun today, Ben!

Did you prefer one gun over the other?

Jumping in here. Great comments guys. i have had my 9VE for two weeks and 600 rounds thru it with no problems. Trigger is better or I am getting stronger, either one is OK! I have owned and shot numerous DAO semi autos (92D, 96D, 5946, 5944, 2 Kahrs) and admittedly this one is the heaviest trigger so far. I am getting good groups both slow and rapid fire. Can't believe I'll be in to a brand new hi cap, polymer 9mm with four mags for $300! Plus $20 for a Glock belt slide holster and done!

CMan here are photos of my G26

These are before add ons applied.

Finally got to take my new SW9VE to the range Saturday. Put 350 rounds through it without a single failure of any kind. When I first got it I fired 150 rounds in an indoor range just to see if it would really go bang, which it did, but this was the first time I had a chance to shoot it outdoors.

This last outing I used factory 115 gr. fmj Winchester, 115 gr. fmj Federal, and 124 gr. fmj RWS, and 124 gr. cast loads. The Sigma didn't care what it was fed, it digested them all.

I did find that the inexpensive Wal-Mart 115 gr. Federals and my cast loads shoot pretty much the same. Makes my life easier as the cast bullets are a lot easier on my wallet than the factory stuff.

Now, I personally do not mind the Sigma's infamous hard trigger pull, although I will admit it takes some getting used to. Well o.k., it takes a lot of getting used to. But I didn't buy this Sigma for a target pistol, but for a carry pistol. And if that hard trigger keeps it from being fired unintentionally, then I'm all for it. It is the Sigma's reliability that comforts me much more than its hard trigger bothers me.

I never was, nor ever claimed, to be a great, or even good, pistol shot. As you can see from the targets, I have a long way to go. But the Sigma is such a pleasure to shoot that it makes getting there half the fun.

Yep, definitely need more practice!!

Just reached the 750 round mark Yesterday. My SW9VE remains accurate and reliable. However....

I think I experienced a possible double feed attempt as my Sigma jammed a few times. Wasn't a stove pipe. Research I've done tonight tells me maybe a weak magazine spring? I have not cleaned my magazines at all. Should I give them a good cleaning? Hoppes 9 solvent? Should I lube them? Also want to add this didn't happen consistantly. Last couple of mags I put through were fine. Been using the same ammo. Rem UMC 115 Gr Metal Case Mega Pack. What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Ammo, maybe.
Cleaning magazines, maybe.
I clean magazines if I suspect a problem, or notice any accumulation of dirt or lint. Hoppes or any good quality cleaner at hand. Wipe dry and apply a light coat of silicone or dry lube.

Bought a 9VE about 6 weeks ago. So far I like it a lot; have just short of 200 rounds of my handloads through it, 1 failure to feed on 7th round (about round 95) from slide to rear. No apparent cause, and I am attributing it to break-in. I hope that is a real anomaly, because I am getting rather fond of this gun. For a plastic gun, anyway,

Tried something of an experiment with it today. I have a pair of mechanics' gloves that I use with the AR in cold weather. I tried them with the Sigma today--very carefully. If I insert my finger in the trigger guard they take up all the slack but no more. The Sigma fits me so well that I still have good feel with the gloves. Temp was about 35 degrees, spitting rain/snow, and windy. I shot it on a paper plate target at 15 yards, slow fire, and got a decent 5 shot group. Then went to 7 yards, singles from low ready, focussing on the one white dot left on the front sight. No timer, but running about 2.0 seconds. Group ok, but loose. Repeated but with focus on good sight picture, and for the 5 shot group got a teacup sized group.

This with the dreaded "heavy" Sigma pull. I weighed it at 11.5# when I got the gun and it was the same when I reweighed it tonight. It's smoother, and feels like a good DA revolver. (NOT like an old Colt DA!)

I will have to do some more work with the Sigma when it gets really cold. I've shot revolvers in 30 below, so I have some baseline experience here. The the last thing you want at those temperatures is a light pull; which is why I've never tried a 1911 under those conditions.

The "heavy pull" of the Sigma, on the other hand, really worked well as a safety measure, and sure doesn't affect accuracy. Some people think that a good, smooth, somewhat heavy DA pull is preferable, and I am inclined to think they're right. I spent time trying to shoot a Glock 17 and SIG 220 (DA/SA and DAO) well, and never came close to what this gun can do.

Not bad for a cheap blaster. 800 rounds to go until it's off probation.

Bat Guano,

Great to hear you are happy with your Sigma. Just gave mine a good cleaning today. Might be back at the range this weekend.

Keep us posted.

Sounds like you had fun!

I wouldn't worry about the cold temps: While some guns boast of shooting in a sandbox or under water, the sigma can shoot in outer space! LOL!:)

My Sigma is 4 weeks old. I've been to the range three times and about 150 rounds (I'm new to this, and I seem to get worse if I shoot too much).
So far the only problems have been me, the gun has been flawless.

I put round number 1000 through my Sigma a couple of days ago. The trigger feels great, the pistol functions perfectly, and I've become quite accurate with it. I had an issue with a magazine a short time ago, but a replacement from S&W solved that problem. Definitely happy that I decided on the Sigma.

I have the SW9VE and I couldn't be happier. I also have a glock 17 and to be honest, my S & W feels better and shoots just as good as my glock. I use my S&W for my carry gun. Great gun.

I have both a SW9VE and a Glock 17. I have had both for years. I shoot better with the Glock. The SW9VE Shoots a noticeably bigger pattern than the Glock does. But the SW9VE is the better bargain for the price and is a great value.
My SW9VE has always performed flawlessly.
