Don't own a 40 cal. Have about a dozen 9s. I like warm 124gr ball for
reliabilty and penetration.
reliabilty and penetration.
No longer bother with the .40 (used to use Double Tap 165-gr JHPs, tho). In 9x19, I use Win RA9TA 127-gr +P+ in full-sized guns and Speer 124-gr +P short barrel Gold Dots in the 3" guns.
What's everyone carrying?
thanks in advance,
Okie John
Why did you give up on the 40? Just curious.
9mm - Winchester 147 gr. JHP Personal Protection (USAJHP2).
Why? Because Wally-World had their 50 rd. boxes on sale for $18.
Like Erich, I don't want to ignite caliber debates again, I'll just repete my time worn response to this question...
"There are no magic bullets in any caliber. If there were all the other ammo companies would be out of business. Ballistically, there's not a nickles worth of difference (performance wise ) in today's premium JHP ammo. So, pick what you shoot the best in your particular gun, or in my case, what I shoot best that's on sale, that works reliably in my guns."![]()
decent prices?
to which Moondawg refers in my local Wally World the Sunday before last for $15.47/box . . . and foolishly didn't buy any because I assumed that there'd still be some around when I returned the next day. That's an accurate and very consistent round - and I'm told it's the same bullet as their heavy Silvertip but with a different color to the jacket.9mm - Winchester 147 gr. JHP Personal Protection (USAJHP2)
For HD and limited carry for SD, I use 180 gr. Rem. JHP bought at Wal-Mart. They are not fashionable. But, they are affordable. I can shoot them enough to know where they hit and how they recoil, etc., in my G-22. If a bad situation arises, I don't expect any round to produce a one-shot stop. I plan on shooting until the threat is stopped. I do not expect to be shooting through cars/walls. I figure the 180gr. JHP will do what is needed. If and when I can find some more up to date type ammo at an affordable price, I may transition.
