NYPD Revolvers, show what you got!

Here's mine, courtesy of Mr. Vivas:

Here's the officer's shield number. Good Mr. Vivas was kind enough to look it up for me, and I lost the info in a computer dump. I recall it was issued to a new patrolman circa 1946:

NYPD guy w/question

Did my twenty plus w/NYPD. Carried a model 10 til 2004 ( retirement ). Never knew the job authorized stainless or nickel revolvers. Always thought Blue and Pach's was only option. Am I incorrect ?

Nickle revolvers were authorized for both on duty and off duty carry up until the late 1960's
IIRC it went something like this

After a friendly fire incident involving a 2 police officers (one in plain clothes) who was shot. The nickle revolver was though to be one of the contributing factor.

Blue steel revolvers only became mandatory as a result for the next 20 odd years.

Stainless model revolvers were authorized for carry after around 1987
Someone else please chime in if my memory is faulty.

That's pretty much the way I remember it. And then in or shortly after 1987 DAO and no hammer spur for newbies, and then shortly after that the 9mm's became authorized.

The bottom photo is a 36, original everything including stamped tyler...straight from the equipment section of 1pp in 1983

Anyone looking for a NYPD revolver (NY-1), Michi-Gun has a beautiful S&W model 64 with a 2" barrel, bobbed hammer, D/A only.
Michi-Gun

Just spoke to my brother 25 years with NYPD retired in 2000, said that you could pick up the off duty 2 inch from the NYPD Store for 65.00 then he still has his -------

When I was there you could buy your gun through the dept., but they did not issue any handguns. This was in the mid 1970's. I believe I paid $68.00 for a new model 10. The only off duty's that were allowed at that time was a mod 36 Smith, or the Colt Det. spec., eveything had to be blue. The reason for only these guns was, so I was told, was if someone pulled a gun out in plain clothes and it was something else, he probably wasn't a cop. Don't know if that really was the case. They were probably only trying to limit the choices.

Here are a couple, one for sure and a maybe I have'nt been able to attribute to a particular department so why not NYC?
First a .32 HE, I don't know how common they are but no one has mentioned one yet. Nothing special, maybe 80% with a rack #254.

The other is a .38 perfected with a rack number S273 on the butt and "P.S. Connor" engraved somewhat simply on the backstrap. There are a number of these floating around but I haven't found an accurate attribution yet. Any one have any ideas?

I collect NYPD guns, but trying to get all of them would bankrupt me-so I decided to focus on 1989-present. All my pre-89s are up for sale.

a Colt Official Police that belonged to patrolman Kenneth Kendras that was issued to him in 1957. Somewhere along the line he had a small badge inlaid into the right grip.

David-

I don't think that's an Official Police. I think you have one of the rare Marshal guns, which were basically a round-butted OP.

What inscription is on the bbl.? If it says OP, you must have an altered gun or maybe some were marked that way, although they had round butts. That'd be a new Colt, to me.

T-Star

My understanding is that almost all Colt Marshals had a M suffix to the serial number. If the Serial Number ends in the letter M then Texas Star pegged it.

I think Colt sent RB Official Polices to NYPD. Seems there's quite a few of them.
