I've heard a lot of discussion around .38 caliber ammo for cc but no mention of Winchester PDX1. They claim it's carried by the FBI. In .38 it comes in 130 grain JHP. Has anyone had experience with this ammo?

Who is They? I sincerely doubt it's carried by the FBI; agents have not carried 38 Special revolvers in decades.

Only experience at the range against paper targets. Prints a little low from a Model 10-5 as would be expected. Recoil wasn't too bad for a +p. Never tried gel testing.

I could have made this clearer. The source was the ad in Cabelas regarding this ammo in general, not the .38 specifically. They state "Chosen by the FBI as their primary service round". If indeed this is the ammo used primarily by the FBI I would have thought it would be more popular.

I believe the statement about FBI usage of the PDX-1 load refers to the PDX-1 line in general. I have seen that reference on many advertisements for PDX, even in calibers which I don't believe the FBI currently uses.

This 38 special load is my carry ammo in my 642. It goes across the chrony a little slower than the old Hydra-shok load, but with a more modern bullet design. I feel comfortable with it.

I think they are referring to the 40 caliber only, no matter what might be inferred from the marketing blurb. Can anyone confirm?

Its a 130gr JHP controlled expansion bonded bullet at 950 fps from a 4" barrel that was designed to meet the FBI's ballistics protocol. Doesn't get much better than that.

I think FBI can carry snubs off-duty. I've seen it, at least a few years ago.

The FBI may not carry .38 revolvers by policy, on duty or off.
