Was wondering if anyone has ever seen a bullet or projectile that looks like twisted cable? The projectile was recovered from the wall of an indoor range while retrofitting new interior panels. The projectile appears to .38 caliber and made of soft lead and is twisted, simliar looking to guide wire cable, but is shaped exactly like a lead RN bullet. I don't have pictures at this time but will try to get some. Just looking to see if anyone as ever seen anything like this before. Thanks in advance - Joe

No, this looks like someone took a piece of twisted wire and made a bullet. The projectile has the profile of a normal RN lead shape, but is made up of individual strands of soft lead, that are twisted tight together and shaped into the RN profile. I will try to get a picture and post it, it would probably be easier.

Now I'm interested. I've heard of people experimenting with all kinds of different shapes and materials trying to make a better mousetrap, but this is a new one.

I wonder if they gave up since that one was in the wall, like the one that hit my chronograph.

I cant find a pic of it right now but one of my officers gave me his off duty gun to take a look at last week and he had these in his gun. They are Federal jacketed Zink bullets (non lead) range rounds I can't find them in their catalog. They are weard looking they are call JCQT Zink.

Looks like we have a winner here. It's Federal's attempt to produce a frangable range round.

It's probably Federal's Ballisti-clean, BCNT1 or BCNT2. I think the BCNT3 is compressed copper. As I recall, the difference between -1 and -2 was the primer, but I could be wrong.

That Zink bullet reminds me of the rat I killed with a wad of aluminum foil shot from an air pistol.

I could have been rich by now.

jbcap,
I just Googled it and came up with all kinds of info including the Patent Info. I just typed in JCQT Zink Bullet!!

Masterpiece - just looked it up and acutally found the one called a formed wire bullet, which appears to be the exact one that I am talking about, or at least really close. Thanks - Joe
