8 round, 357/38 speedloaders?

The 8rd moonclips are no doubt the hardest to load. They're thin and most 38/357 brass has very narrow groove to lock in. If you are renting range time then the idea of having 50-100 moonclips preloaded makes good sense. If nothing is a rush then I just shoot the gun without, and save the hassle of mooning-demooning, the 38/357 works fine without the clips.

Groo here
Tuff products will be making 8rd
Speedstrips [They call QuickStrips]
Very soon!!
I have some 6rd in 38/357 and 44/45 {note will work with 41] strips.
They are also working on pouches for the
strips.
Check the web for info and search here.

A couple of disadvantages to it...

A.It runs about $60.00! Maybe more since I haven't checked the exchange rate in a bit...

B.Their minimum order is 500 Euros!

Any takers?!?!
I keep wanting to...but I don't have a spare 500 Euros to throw around.

What do these look like? Does anyone have a picture of them?

Until somebody makes a real speedloader for the 8-shooters, stick with moonclips. I bought a few ten packs for $25 from HERE. Now I just load up 25 or so clips for a trip to the range (done over a few days, or a week) and life is good. No loose brass, chasing brass, any of that garbage.

I wish that it were that simple, my friend. My 627 is not machined for the moonclips, S&W has told me that they won't do it, and if an outside party does the necessary machining, it will void the warranty.
So, it appears that I am stuck, at least for the time being, with the maxfires.
Oh well, practice, practice, practice.

I wonder how much a new cylinder would cost. You could have one machined and keep the other original. I'm practicing with speed strips, load four rounds in each separated by an empty spot. This makes it quick. Down side is you need to handle two strips. It seems as fast as 5 in my J-frame using one strip.

Thunder Ranch 8Shot Speed Loader

Quickstrip 8 shot speed strip

Load moonclips with The Moonclip Tool. mooncliptool.com. This solved all my 45 ACP and 38/357 Magnum moonclip problems...faster too!

..... 5 Star Speed Loader
Thunder Ranch 8Shot Speed Loader .........

+1 for 5StarFirearms.com's speedloaders. I have them for my 686+ (7-shot) and they offer 8-round speedloaders for the 627. In other threads, some forum members said that they don't like them but, imho, they are well made and work as advertized for the range. FWIW, I got the "bedside block kit" along with a few speedloaders. Sometimes we have to splurge. :D

5 Star Firearms makes high quality 8-shot speedloaders. Moonclips are great and they're fast, but they don't do well if carried in a pocket so I have and use both moonclips and speedloaders with my PC 627 UDR.

8 round .357 moon clips

Try mooncliptool.com-they show an 8 round .357 mag moon clip. and there tool is great, I've been using it for a while. I have clips for 2 different calibers, just great. Flapjack

Carry a Ranch brand Moonclip full of either 38 or 357 in my 627PC & two 5-Star Eight round Speed loaders in DeSantis Speed loader pouches on the belt. Made my own Demooner.

I love the look of the 5stars... but I am worried about them hanging up on my hogue grip... anyone have any issue with this?? I too have a TRR8 and I am liking the stock moonclips less and less because of the wiggle... they still work, and I don't mind loading reloading them - albeit sore fingers, but I'd love to have speedloaders that work. so... hogue+8-shot+speedloader = issues?

5 Star's are THE bomb. Just got in 4 of them and have been practicing my fingers off with reload drills and snap/caps til I can get to the range this week (that range report IS coming at you Carl :) ). They definately WORK and seem to work well.

I'm also experimenting with a pretty wide variety of grips, all that are scalloped a la Hogue style, and NO, there are zero hangups with these and the 5 Stars.

Hope this helps.

Guess it's too late to whine/moan/ and beg about you throwing in the leather too huh? Bummer. :)

SuperHeat,

When I found my 627-PC it had an unfluted cylinder on it. I've always used a fluted cylinder, so called S&W Customer Service. The new fluted cylinder ran $152.00 plus their labor of $60.00 for fitting it. They returned the unfluted cylinder & weapon in about 3 weeks. It had the moonclip cut.
