It was supposed to be here yesterday however I had to wait till today, which was fine since today was our usual pratice evening for Steel Challenge. Unfortunately I had no holster yet, but EVERYBODY played with it. LOL My mentor on revolvers arrived with his new 627 and we all had to compare. My R8 got at least 300 rounds put through it with me only getting to run about 50 of them. These guys were like teenagers at a brothel.

I like both weapons very much. The stainless 627 is gorgeous, however most of the crowd liked the looks of the R8 better. I'm torn, I tend to like a stainless weapon, although I will admit the R8 looks mean.

As far as accuracy, they were both SPOT ON out of the box.

I was a little dissapointed with the trigger pull since these are PC guns. The intial pull at the beginning is suprisingly hard although once you get it rolling it seems pretty slick. I did feel like I could double stage the trigger/hammer. In other words one stage half way though and then "staged" ready to drop. Single action was INCREDIBLY sweet on the R8 alhtough I did not check the 627, I would assume it was equally smooth. The R8 seemed to be a tad more nose heavy, but once loaded up and running, I didn't notice it.

We fired WWbox 130 target ammo, Precision Delta 148 gr wadcutters, and Precision Delta RN reloads. All worked well and there really wasn't much difference between them.

The moon clips S&W sent (3) are cheap pices of ...well you know. One already broke. After arriving from the range, my order from Midway showed up on the big brown Christmas sleigh. In it I had several packs of moon clips from Ranch Products. They seem a little better, however compared to the full moons I am used to for my 625 they seem flimsy. Time will tell. And yes, I understand the R8 clips have to hold a toltally different case. It's all good.

Another thing I noticed was that the description says "chamfered charge holes" well, not really. the extractor (star) is chamfered, but not the outer ring of the chambers. I will not be using any of the wadcutters, it was like trying to load empty brass.

Final note...I ordered a Safariland "Cup Challenge" holster for it, and yes, I can "force" it in, however even after loosening the screws, it is still soooo tight I could never even begin to draw it . Total dissapointment. So uch for the 20 minutes on the phone with Safariland.

Overall, if you like shooting speed games with revolvers, THIS IS THE BOMB (as the kids say) LOL My biggest problem now is going to be getting used to counting higher than 6. LOL

Check out 5starfirearms.com for their milled aluminum speedloader and baseplate - they work great with my 627 Pro and PC627 UDR's. BTW, the S&W OEM moonclips came from Ranch Products - and have to be pretty thin to fit in the teeny rim depression of some cases. I've found that Starline and Remington cases load more easily in the clips. It helps if you rotate the case as you push it into the 'clip. Ranch Products did offer the 327/627 x8 moonclips for $50/50 or $75/100 shipped.

The x8 speedloader and baseplate (2 x 8 shown) are available as a 'nightstand kit' at a special price. They work great, as long as all eight rounds are the same OAL.

I also have an R8 and it is a fantastic wheel gun. I do not shoot speed games with it and sometimes open carry it in a Simply Rugged Sourdough pancake holster:

Sometimes when I shoot bullseye with it I set it up like this:

The looks I get at the range with that set up are quite interesting.

I really do like the nose heavy feel of the R8. It feels like the old PPC style revolvers with 6 inch heavy barrels.

I saw that on another thread. I LOVE those grips! I grew used to the Miculek grips on my 625, so these rubber ones feel different although not too bad.

I bet you do get soome looks with the Eotec on there. LOL Awesome.

I may take a dremel to this Safariland holster I have simply because it would do ok if I wanted to lug the gun around with a big sight on it. I am thinking about going for the gusto and ordering a CR Speed holster, they just seem like a good way to drop a gun to me. I know a bunch of guys that use them on race guns with no problems so who knows?

You lucky I was not there...lol. I would have been shooting it also. That is a very interesting looking revolver. It is also the first lock gun that has gotten my attention. So is the R8 an UDR? If not what one would be the UDR. Thanks.

I guess I will have to admit to my slow moving brain at this hour. UDR ????

Does the R8 come cut for moonclips from the factory?:)

If so, I'll take on in 4"!

Yes it does, or you can load singles without the clips. I sure like throwing in 8 at once though. I haven't looked to see if the R8 is available in a 4". What I would like to see is various barrels become available since it has a barrel shroud and nut, it would be easy to change them out like the old Dan Wesson model 15.

5" only for the M&P.

There is a 327 in 2.5"
