New Grips on a couple of S&W Revolvers

I usually have S&W factory grips on my S&W revolvers but yesterday a set of Ahrends Tactical Finger Groove arrived for my S&W 686 no dash. It's a range gun so I put them on and I really like like them and the smooth finish. I had some Ahrends finger groove grips in the past and I liked the slim width but they were two deep for my hand from front to back so I sold them off later on. The Retro Combat grips has a much nicer profile and I really like them.

The second picture is of my Dad's Model 10-5 that I inherited and I had a set of S&W diamond target grips on it which weren't period correct. He always loved beautiful wood with lots of grain so I put a set of S&W nicely figured presentation grips on it in his memory.

I have observed that many replace factory grips with those that do not enhance but instead detract from the overall visual elegance of the handgun.

On the other hand, some people have a sense of taste. You do. Both sets look beautiful and do enhance the look of your guns.

Love the look of the Model 10. My Dad also admired beautiful wood, so I know exactly where you're coming from.

"Back in the day" of LEO work, when both dinosaurs and revolvers ruled the Earth (say the late Jurassic of the 70's and early 80's ) , you would be hard pressed to find folks using wood regularly on daily carry pieces. Pachmayers ruled as they withstood daily rigors of in and out of a police car, bumps, smacks, etc. You did see Jay Scott's, Herrett's, Rogers (the "other" synthetics),etc. but TONS of officers used rubber grips. Can remember many Smiths that I immediately ditched the woods for rubber.

If I only knew then that N and K frame targets would go for for $80.00 a whack.

Art, I have to agree with the previous post, great photographs as always. Both sets of grips are beautiful and I'm sure your Dad would have loved those presentation grips...I sure do! Thanks for showing them off. Bob

Thanks, I corrected the original post as I bought these off of Ebay from a dealer who sells them up there without the wait when you order from Ahrends and I thought they were the retro finger groove.
