Gratuitous 28-2 pic, with sambar and a T-grip.

Last week I saw a 28-2 HP with a scope mounted on it. What's up with that? I did not look it over very carefully (not sure what type of scope) but I was wondering if that is a bad thing in terms of the value? The guy had it priced at $575.
OK, I'm confused. My new to me 28-2 is clearly marked 28-2 and the serial number is clearly N9506xx. The gun is also pinned and recessed. Should that late number not belong to a non P&R dash 3? What gives?
That's interesting. Thanks for the info. Is it just a matter of them having left over parts?Your serial number falls in the 82-86 year range. The 28-3 started in 1982 so yes I would think yours should have been a 28-3 and not pinned and recessed but then with S&W you just never know.
It is a very late 28-2, especially to be P&R but, it is in the 'range'. There are lower serial numbers that don't have pinned barrels but the first 28-3 did seem to show up until the N955xxx range.OK, I'm confused. It's a 28-2, serial S306287, according to the SCSW shipped in 1968.
