I've posted this elsewhere, and thought I had here, but apparently not. I picked this one up a few months ago. SN is N536XXX. It had the the box, and some of the papers. Box was sort of beat up, but SNed to the gun.

I've only fired a few rounds through it.

For what it's worth I put another one on layaway yesterday. This one a 6" barrel, with Magna stock (matching S/N to gun). SN is S2901XX. It's got a couple of ugly scratches on it but seems mechanically perfect.

I had been ignoring it for weeks, and thought it was gone over the weekend. It was the salesman told me, "I sold it to some young fellow who bought it back exchanged it for a semi-auto."

Allen-frame or anyone else,

In the OP of this terrific thread the Ser. # range showed this:

1974--1977 N200000

1975--1976 N300000

I have a 28-2 6" with Magnas that a family member bought new in the 1970's. My Ser. # is N2464XX. Can I assume that it was most likely mfg. in 1975 or 1976? It doesn't really matter...just curious.

Thanks.

My 28-2 from 1961/2 batch. Showing-off its new set of original Magna grips from the period! S/N S2280xx. Added a picture showing the Fitz staGrips it came with for comparision!

Thank you!

Got the carry bags (two of) from the S&W website about four years ago, and thankfully they still sell them. Very well padded and well worth the investment.

Much nicer than my carry bag!!

Although probably not as much fun to acquire...;)

I acquired one in Vietnam and it was stolen off the airplane when we refueled in Hawaii. Welcome to the USA was what I was thinking at the time.:(

It got worse when we got to San Francisco.

I'll bet.....

Thanks for your service, man.

28-2

Just got this in a trade from a Fine Gentleman and Forum Member.

Serial Number N328XX, stocks match, matching box with no papers or tools. I plan keeping this one and passing it on to my son.
