5" Non-Reg Mag at Cabelas--Pics added!

Did anyone see the 5 inch Non Reg Magnum that Cabelas had on their web site? I ment to save the picture and did not. It is now sold ($899) and the picture is gone. I called and e-mailed and was told it sold yesterday. I asked if it was a Reg Mag and the guy told me it was a Non Reg. I asked why so cheap..He said cause the guy that put it up was stupid. If I had been thinking I should have offered $2000 and had him renig on the original deal. If you have the picture please post it. If you bought the gun- Great score!!

They are notorious for overpricing junk, but every now and then, they underprice something they don't have a clue about. I've got a couple deals over the years from them that way.

Me, too. I picked up a 1916-vintage Colt 1911 for a bit over $800. They thought it had been reblued and had replacement parts, but they were wrong.

So what do you think they paid the poor schmuck who sold it to them? If they listed it at $900 I bet they paid no more than $350 for it. The real loser was the person they bought it from.

I was at the Maine Cabela's store today, where that was all they were talking about...

Guess they got over 2 dozen "I'll take it" messages in under an hour. The "outfitter" who groused about it to me said "it was a $3,000 gun" and that "someone would be paying the price" -- but not the buyer I'm guessing, they got quite a deal.

He also told me their new directive -- per Corporate policy -- is to offer 65% on the dollar of the expected resale value of the firearm. It used to be 70%...

Well at least the buyer was smart enough not to try to put the gun on hold while he contacted Roy to see if the gun was right! The Cabelas in Las Vegas had a Model 27 for sale at something like $2,500 a couple of years ago, with a tag on it that said "S&W .357 Registered Magnum." When i asked about it, I was told " All S&W .357 Magnums are Registered!"

If it was Las Vegas then it was BassPro. There isn't a Cabela's in Las Vegas.

It appears to be. It also looks like the blade on mirror front sight is shortened and the base seems a different color.

Biil, Your'e right, It was Bass Pro. mental mistake by me, but when it comes to Gun Sale smarts, I put Cabelas & Bass pro in the same celler. (Except for the Cabelas in Ill., where one of our Forum members is on board to advise management from which end of a gun the bullet will emerge when fired. ) Ed.

With non-original front and rear sights I am willing to bet, if someone posted that picture here and said they had paid $899 for it, someone would have told them they paid too much for a shooter.

For sure a post war rear sight.which means the frame was milled open larger or the sight was milled down.There is a prewar registered magnun for sale at this time with the same postwar rear sight and postwar front sight.I can not say where the gun is located at this time it is a on going auction.The current bid is much to high for what the gun is worth.I would like to add the high bid is over 5k and it is a 2k gun at best

In a nutshell: The "non-registered" is a late pre-war .357 Magnum which is essentially the same gun as the "registered", but without a registration number stamped in the yoke cut on the frame. The "pre-27" is generally considered to be any post-war .357 (N-frame) built prior to the advent of model numbered S&W's.
