I just wanted to present my newest addition to my Smith family. I purchased this on Sunday, my new old K22 model 18-no dash. It appears to me to have about 95%+ bluing and the bore is excellent. It shoots very well and I was given the original box and tool set with it. No manual but that can be gotten. I feel very privileged to own this fine revolver, a call to S&W confirmed a 1958 manufacture date. I also have '68 Model 10-5 and a '78 Model 15-4. I guess 19something8 is my number for Smiths. I hope you enjoy these photos.

Very nice gun and great pics, of all the guns I own I do not have a 4" 22 and it is on the want list once I can find one in the condition like yours and a price that is fair. Congrats!

Utilitarian tool, or.....?

or, work of art. That is such a great find, it's hard to say
anything in praise. It speaks for itself. Congrats on your newest
family member. TACC1

I seem to have hit the wrong forum title when I posted this, it should be in the 1896 to 1961spot. Could the moderators change this if they wish? Thank you for all the posts, I finally got one like the ones I read about so much here.

Congratulations !

I found a 1958 last week as well.
It was not cheap but I love the 4 and 5 screw CM's.

Nice score. Very nice score!

I bought my Model 18 new in April, 1977. I have put more rounds through it than any handgun I own. If I had to divest myself of my guns, the 18 would be one of the last 2 or 3 to go.

Sweet looking revolver you have there and a couple of nice photos.
I do not have the original box or tools with mine and it is a 1957 model. Any chance you could post a few pictures of the box and accessories too?
Thanks, Bob

I am torn whether to shoot this piece a lot or try to keep it in good shape, or do both. You only have so many Smiths in a lifetime so I'm tempted to shoot it a lot.
I don't think too many relatives and friends are going to get a lot of time on the K22 though, I may be a little stingy with this one.

I'll try to get photos of the box and tools up here soon. The box is in good shape but with a couple of blems on the cover.

I did notice that the gun likes Federal Bulk Pack quite a lot, whereas Remington Bulk don't work for nothing. The Remington is extremely hard to eject, the Federal has no problem.

Hello kcmitch
Your gun would not have come with a Manuel. It would have had a Helpful Hint's Brochure in that time span with an Officer on the face of it wearing slacks shooting an M&P and also on the rear of the Brochure it will show a cut away of an M&P revolver. here is my Pre-18 that shipped in September 1958, shown wearing the Diamond High Grain Figure Gancalo-Alves stock's it left the factory with...

Absolutely beautiful Hammerdown. It sure is great that we get to see these fine revolvers. I'm a wheel gunner at heart, even though I own a 3913 for carry. The first hand gun I ever touched was a Model 15, courtesy of the USAF. Wish I had THAT one today. I did find a manual on a web site that was downloadable, it had a picture of the K22 model 18 on the front. It has a parts list, instructions, maintenance, specifications and guarantee in it. It's not original, but its all I have. I'll keep a look out for the publication you mentioned. Here is a link to that site;

Thanks for posting your photos and thanks for the info.

I only have six handguns and the Model 18 would be one of my last 7 or 8 to go also.;)

"I am torn whether to shoot this piece a lot or try to keep it in good shape, or do both."

Actually shooting won't wear a nice .22 revolver very much. Holsters, bumping it into things, rough abrasive cleaning styles will beat the gun up a lot more. Just be careful with it and you can do both.

My model 18 is one of my "most used" handguns. I taught my grandson to shoot revolvers with it. In these days of high ammo prices, it's hard to beat .22 caliber Smith revolvers, of which I have a few!
