Saw this at my local GS & toy supplier. Thought " now that is kind of cool!" Wound up making a deal for it along with a K98k. Got it for $634. (The Trail Boss). The trigger on the gun is great, it has the case hardened trigger and hammer.

A local guy carried it when he went pig huntin'.

It has adjustable night sights, which are cool! SN is RSR 9932.

Magna Ported, all papers in the box.

That's a good name for it. If you use it at home for an intruder, the muzzle blast will break your eardrums and set the curtains on fire!:D

I HATE Trail Boss powder!!!

Oh what, this is the gun...

I LOVE shorty big bores!!!! :D

Time for bed, 4 AM comes way too fast... :(

But that is a sweet thumper... ;)

Nice find Air

Would love to see a better picture of those sights when you get her home.

Yeah, I noticed them and thought they were kind of neat. Thought at first the gun was all original. Didn't see a pic of one stock until after I put the gun on layaway. I took the K98k home though. The dealer said it came from the factory with those sights, but I think not.
I started checking these out and am finding all kinds of different numbers for how many of these were made. I think some of the early ones, which I think this one is, were lower in production numbers with certain features.
Any body know more about these?

ETA: The box says 103408, which is the first series 1996-1999. Box also has Special Order 9222 and says square butt stocks, although these may be round butt guns.
The grips are S&W logo on both sides.

Thanks, Terry

nice gun, sounds like a good deal too. My 629 has a lanyard loop too. You can order them from Hogue. They were like $7 for 2.

New Member saying congrats on that Trail Boss find

I found the same Trail boss last week, in the same condtion RSR model and it comes with Altomont combat wood grips which was an option on the RSR model.
Im stoked ive been looking for an original Trail Boss pre lock for a long time and like you could not pass it up ill post pics when i pic her up.

Its 10 day wait behind the iron curtain of California.

Boy it seems that S/W is following everyone home lately I had a 629-1 follow me home today I am a little uncertain as to when it was made and is a 629 in nickel common had not seen many think this is what led me to it can any one help with the DOB I have the book but with all added numbering has me confused S/N AES277x

Well, if it is a 629-1 it would not be nickel. They are all stainless. Probably highly polished. The AES prefix puts it in 1984 in the book.

Thanks AC that is what I thought around 84 and it sure appears to be nickel again thanks

Groo here
I got one some time ago same as yours [ except sight ]
The thing can be a beast but I think the 3 in N frame is the best..
Hint: For heavy loads -- order up the rubber grip for an X frame,
Fits fine and the softer rubber at the back takes care of any
heavy kicking problems...

I have got the wood factory grips and a set of rubber grips have not shot it yet will this weekend and about it not being nickel as I said it sure looks nickel their is a scratch under the trigger and it is not stainless under it did SW make this in nickel or could it have been redone I Guss only way to find out would be call SW thanks to all

Are those night sights? I walked away from a 3" 629 with box and papers a few years ago. I've been kicking myself ever since. But then, I remember several guns i walked away from that I should have bought.

Yes, they are. I'm going down there tomorrow to pay some on it, I think I'll get more info about them and take more pics. I'll try and find out if the seller still has the original sights.

Mystery sights

Took these pics today. The original owner did not save the original sights, but if you use these once at night, you will probably be blind anyway!:)

The front sight is some kind of plastic I think. I think I can dress it up and fix it with a Sharpie.
