Remember the 657 from the gone broker auction?

Well, I received it yesterday at my shop. And to say I am pleased is an understatement.
It is a September 1986 Model 657 the grips are original and date to Sept. 9th 1986.
Serial prefix is ANN. All hardware except the barrel and cylinder are original.
The cylinder is a 1990s type with the larger stop notches and non pinned extractor.
The barrel is another story. It measures 2.9" a full .010' shorter than my other 2 3" 625s.
It has 6 lands and grooves with left hand twist as do the others BUT the lands are about 1/2 the
width of the other 625 barrels.
Looking at my 3" 625-3 in 45 A.C.P. the lands and grooves match.
SO, it stands to reason that the barrel started life as a 45 A.C.P. barrel and was machined to fit
the 657 frame and 45 Colt cylinder.
The barrel address looks to have been engraved by a jewler. Kind of like what you might find
on the back of a watch. It was done well, but not too well. If you know what I mean.
The barrel/cylinder gap is almost nonexistent. About .0001" or so.
There is no scraping of the cylinder face on the back of the forcing cone but as I shoot it Friday
will be the test. We'll see how it performs heated up after a few rounds.
The action is nothing short of superb.Whomever did the work made it smooth and the timing is right on.
There is no perceptible side to side play of end shake whatsoever.
SO my gamble paid off. That is IF it's a shooter.
Here are the pictures of the 657 in 45 Colt with his younger siblings.
Add a pair of 625-7 3" .
Then a pair of 625-6 Mountain guns from the 'hills' of South Florida.
Next a pair of Performance Center 625s from the big city.
And last is the 625-7 Power Port. The funny Cousin.
8 Stainless Smith and Wessons chambered in 45 Colt ctg.
Add in the 5 Blued model 25s and model 26, in 45 Colt and there are 13. I guess I can relax now.
