S&W 6906

I don't know that I've ever seen a disparaging word on the forum about the 6906. I know I love mine :D

I think the hooked trigger guard models look goofy, that's as disparaging as I have. My local dealer had one for a while that was only $299 but that trigger guard just bugged me.

$299? If it was in good shape, I'd grab it in a flash.

If you want a 6906, look on GB. The California Dept of Corrections must have just changed over their weapons and sold a load of their 6906's to distributors everywhere. There are a lot of them on GB right now, and all have the same TDSxxxx serial numbers and department markings.
Probably have to look to separate the good from the well used, but with so many, it seems like the prices should be good. I have a 469 and a 6946, but if price is so low I cannot look away, I may add another!

Gunbroker.com has some S&W 6906's

If you are looking for a 6906, then Gunbroker.com has some (search for S&W 6906) that are auctioning for about $400. Plenty of 6906 magazines, too.

3rd gen S&W

And don't rule out the venerable CS9!

Probably my favorite out of my 4 (6904/6906/4013TSW and CS9)

If you're wife is beginning to lean towards the Kahr, of which I have and carry the PM9, the CS9 is a very suitable substitute.

Currently the only alloy framed S&W I have is a 6906 that has to have (no kidding) 20,000 rounds through it. VA Beach PD used to carry them, and I got a retired one cheap. I LOVE it.

I know where I can get one, the one we saw at the show didn't get sold, I really need a new set of tires for my car, it was advertised at $450 but they said quickly they'll negotiate, so $400 out the door might be doable, haven't read a single bad thing about this gun and many praise it for those with smaller hands which certainly includes the wife, man those tires are getting thin.....arrghhh!

Just recently acquired a used 6906.
It is a welcome addition to any ones collection of S&W pistols.

Traded an unfired 637 for a like new 6906 over a year ago. Shot it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed with the gun. Fired a variety of different ammo using standard and 59 series fifteen round magazines. Not one failure.

This thread confirms I need one

I have not had much experiance with S&W autos. I own many revolvers but...
My Brother inlaw wanted a gun he lives in Ill I am in MI so I really could not help him. A local cop sold him a CS9 I thought oh well would not be my first choice but good for him. Than I shot it well now I need one.
I have been looking CS9s are not everywhere but I will get one at some time but I do see a fair amount of 6906s and after reading this post I will purchase one today.
Heres what I like

Its a S&W
Very simple
Seems very well built
I am very committed to 9mm (most people I talk to that say 9 is too light have not been shot with one)
I dont know why but for the size it seems that the felt recoil is very modest
I liked it

I love my FS92s but they are quite large and loaded with ammo very heavy

and I AM A GUN JUNKIE

+ 1 for Hank.

I think you just can't go wrong with a 6906/6904. Have my 6904 for 18 years and carried it for several years, shot it a lot and it never failed me (didn't treat it too gently either). It's definately a keeper.....;)

oh, forgot to mention. In 1993 it cost 335 $$$ new in the box with a spare mag..

Hooked/squared trigger guards, or rounded ones, I own both types on 3rd generation S&W's and have come to love them equally-

It's kind of like the blonde/brunette thing. Both can be very hot and desirable, and both have pro's and con's!

The hooked trigger guard ones still fit most Sig 228 leather, so it's a non-issue.
I have one each, rounded and hooked, and never notice the difference unless I am looking for it.

I have a Galco that my hooked trigger guard model sits in nicely, as do the ones I bought later with rounded trigger guards.

Not sure if it works the other way around though.

I did what I said and that day I went and ordered a 6906 I am really looking forward to getting it

This one was a retired LEO pistol when I bought it. I carried it on duty for about a year back in 1993 before being issued a 4046 when I switched departments.

I still shoot the 6906 from time to time and it is a sweet shooter. And there is no telling how many rounds have been sent down range with it. My guess is well over 4,000 but I have no idea based on it's first job protecting a uniformed officer with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles before they merged with the Mass. State Police and were issued Sig Sauer's.

The modified base pad on the magazine came from a 5906 and was contoured to fit the grip and make it easier to conceal the pistol while off duty. I never cared for the huge pinky rest extension on the stock 6906 magazines and carried it with the flat base pad off duty. While on duty I carried 15 shot magazines from the 5906. Two in the pouch and one in the pistol with the grip adapter that also lengthened the grip to give you a little more to hold on to and 3 more rounds per magazine.

Long live the 3rd generation Smith's! ;)

I replaced the pinky extension with a 5906 baseplate, too. Darn, here I thought I was an innovator!

I also carried (still carry, sometimes) the 6906 on duty with 2 5906 mags as spares, though I use the 12 rd flat mag in the gun. I like short grip frames for duty use, keeps from digin into the seat or getting hung up on the seat belt buckle.

Here's a trick I do- (I probably shouldn't post this as it has led me to some deals..........)

Some folks put them in as S&W, others as Smith & Wesson, and some spell the name incorrectly (hard to believe but it's true)

I just open GunBroker, go down the left hand column to "semi-auto pistol" and open it up, then type in 6906 (or any other model number) and I leave off the manufacturer's name.

Sometimes you get some hit's that you wouldn't get otherwise, and you automatically get both S&W and Smith & Wesson listings
