FMJ or HP

I am sure this has been discussed somewhere here but I can not find it. Saying that I apologize in advance but here is my question. Will the FMJ 45 230 gr round over penetrate and/or should I use HP for self defense. If there is a post already about this please just redirect me and delete this as I do not want to take up space on a subject already discussed. I have a M&P 45 large frame, 4.5".

A simple Google search for "FMJ for self-Defense" or similar and you will fine numerous threads on numerous forums that you can read.

But for a quick answer: Use modern JHPs fo SD and leave FMJ for practice.
