.32 mag K frame.

I bought the Model 16-4 this morning...Does have aftermarket grips..Hogue wood grip..mono-grip or whatever..I've got the rubber version on a Mod 14.

Good points: The blue is good excepting a wear spot on the bottom of the barrel and a couple minor dinks in the top edge of the barrel rib. Mechanicaly fine. Price...the light must have been really bad Friday(lights were out in the store)..'cause the price was $495..and they wouldn't dicker.

Bad points..does have the aftermarket grip..which I actually like...the front sight blade I suspect has been changed from a partridge to a ramp. I say this because the gun's blue is really good..but the blade is patina brown..pin looks to have been driven too. Front sideplate screw was about to fall out!..No ammo..anywhere I looked..none at the local Wal Mart..None at the store I got the Mod 16 at(though they normaly stock it they said)

Other good points..Shoots perfect..I had part of a box of Federal 85gr hp..and some .32 S&W longs...excellent shooter.

I'll have to get some pics going..but I piled my computer up at lunchtime..and I'm risking my life posting this now using my wife's computer!

Very nice find and good price, even if it does need grips and a new front sight. You can find the correct type grips on e-bay every now and then, but expect to pay a pretty good price for them.

About 8 years ago I had the chance to buy a full set of 16-4s, 4", 6", and 8 3/8", all new in box for $1,500. I didn`t have the cash and hate putting things on credit cards, so I passed on them. Been kicking my self ever since. They would be worth at least twice that price today.

Did it look like these except with a 4" barrel?

The middle one is a Model 16-4 which appears to be what you were looking at. They only made 8,800 of them over about a four year period and the 4" versions are harder to find. They are chambered in .32 H&R Magnum but will fire .32 S&W Longs and .32 S&W cartridges too. Recently some folks have been sending their cylinders to Hamilton Bowen to have them converted to fire the .327 Federal Magnum, which is a hot round. The 16-4s are sweet guns and I'd jump on that one if the price was right, even with the aftermarket grips.

Which models are the other two?

You done good! I bought a 6" when they first came out and after playing with it for a while decided I was more interested in long guns (that was a weak moment!) I would have bought that one you have in a New York second... now that my tastes have recovered! Congratulations.

I gotta get a 14-5, did they come in 4"?

I just looked up the model 14 equivelent to my 'new' Mod 16 in an old 2001 'Gun Digest'. Showed to be a limited production item in 6" only...this the full underlug version.

Every Model 14 I've ever seen is a 6"..I thought the Model 15 was the 4" version of the Mod 14?...Although my Model 15-3 has a lighter barrel than my Model 14-4..so not a direct parallel in models.

There were a very few 4" full lug Model 14-6 guns produced by the Performance Center in 1995 for police pistol teams........I think it was low double digits in terms of production.

At $495 you can afford to put some nice grips and the correct front sight on the gun and still have a good deal. Oh, and those "dings" you mentioned, that just means you can shoot it all you want with no worries.

This is pretty much my thoughts..except I think I'll leave it as is.

I like the wood Hogue grip..rosewood/cocobola or whatever mystery wood it's made from is pretty and fits me well.

The brownish front sight blade and pin with a shiny end can come off and get some blue on it. I bet it got changed out for holster carry..'cause the wear on the bottom of the lug smacks of some carry use. Maybe somebodys 'fishing-gun'?

So what's the 'born on date' for a Model 16-4 serial# BEH 10XX?

The other two guns are a 17-6 on the left and a 14-5 on the right. They make up what I call the modern masterpiece set of K-22, K-32 and K-38 which gives you essentially the same weight and balance in a .22 LR, .32 H&R Magnum and .38 Special. Check out the link below to one of my previous threads.

Thanks for the answer.

I always have wanted a K frame with full underlug Barrel.
