Stevens bolt action 30-30 price check

What's the going rate on a Stevens 325C bolt action 30-30? Bought one several years back for about $100, but it was a little rough. Found one advertised locally for $200. Looks like a good shooter grade rifle. Short, handy, respectable caliber.

Saw one at KC Cabelas for $150 recently. Good condition. I see junky ones for about the same price. I paid $225 for a nice one from an individual about a year ago.
Be aware that some of these fine guns are not drilled and tapped for scope mounts.

I don't know what they sell for, but I remember seeing them in the Sears-Roebuck catalog and dreaming of facing a charging elephant, or stalking a man-eating tiger with one (I was about ten or so). I just KNEW that thing would kill anything that walked, or stop a tank.

They are a good rifle - $150 - $250 range BUT a 30-30 for Mule deer sounds a little light. A 35 rem or .270 Win up makes more sense.

The Stevens wasn't made very long. Maybe 3 or 4 years in the late 40's. Then the Savage 340 came out in the very early 1950's to replace it..

A few changes to it, especially the bolt handle, but pretty much the same rifle.

Model 340 (30-30) mags can work but you usually have to file the mag body stops to allow them to be seated just a bit deeper.

You did well on the price. I have a fifties Savage 340 and have put several thousand rounds through it with no trouble. If you need factory ammo, try the Hornady LEVERevolution 160-gr .30-30s. Excellent velocity and very accurate.

This one is marked Stevens, but also has "Savage Arms" on the barrel. Was Stevens a subsidiary of Savage?

Yes, with regard to Stevens & Savage. Lower quality model (finish, wood, etc).

Load some pointy bullets and at a little better velocity=should be OK for short, maybe medium range mulies. Should be able to stretch it to 200 yards. I'd see about putting a peep on it and use it in thicker stuff.

Stevens was bought out by Savage after WW1 (1921?).
Savage Arms continued to use 'Stevens' as a brand name till the very early 60's when Savage moved the mfg operations out of the Chicopee Falls, MA plant over to Westfield, MA.

Picked up the rifle yesterday. I was able to get it for $150. In the pictures, it looked like the stock was scuffed badly. Turns out, it was just the lighting and spots where the gloss/varnish were worn off the stock. Picked up a box of shells and will take it out this weekend. Will post pics when I get a chance.

I bought one of these in the early 80's for $30. The barrel was rusty but the bore was shiny. I cleaned it up and I then found a Weaver K3W scope for $30 that was missing the box at the store. It has been an accurate shooter and I still enjoy using it.

Just discovered Marbles Bullseye aperature sight. I'm strongly considering ordering one of these. Anyone else have experience with these?

$150 is a good price. There was a very clean one in a local shop here a year or so back for $175 that a buddy of mine ended up with. Neat little rifle. Good score!

I don't know about the Stevens model but I do know the Savage 340 in .30-30 would blow the heck out of a porcelain toilet bowl at about 30 feet! Helped a friend shoot one back about 1973.........
