It's driving me crazy. Can anybody with an early 67 from 1972-73 verify the finish? Did the very early ones, with stainless rear sights, have a more polished rather than the later ones with a satin finish. I have a 1973 that is somewhat polished, not up to nickel sheen, but polished. It shows no sign of being aftermarket hand polished that I can tell. Anyone? Picture would be great. Thanks

I have an early one and an unpinned dash one with the same finish.
Sounds like it may have been polished which can be done by rubbing it with Flitz.

Thanks for the pix.
I am well aware they can be polished with Flitz, done a few myself, but I'm trying to find out if the early ones were factory original that way. What I'm asking is if someone has an original in the box that they bought new could verify this.

Hello Dick, I didnt notice you were the OP at first,
I meant to say that if it was Flitzed it would show no signs of buffing.

I have not seen an original high polish Model 67 and I have seen quite a few but that is opinion not fact.
When comparing the 3K early one I have to the later 80's unpinned dash 1 they are identicle.
The area behind the hammer and trigger guard on my early 67 had some small scratches so I used Flitz to clean it ,
This makes it shine a bit more in the pic.

On a side note I have an earlier Model 66 that has the same dull finish as the 67-1.
Hope this helps
Best regards
Brad

Thanks Dick. Mine is somewhat shinier than that, but it is one of the most beautiful Smiths I have ever owned. Love the heft, balance and just about everything about these great little 4"ers. I just does not look like it has ever been polished though.

Mine originally came with the satin type of finish, I have no pic's of her then, but here she is all shined up with Mothers Mag.

Here is my early 67 no dash which is NIB and I have another identical one also in NIB condition and both have the same stainless finish as shown in the following picture:

Thanks bigun, maybe it's just me, but mine is a little shinier than yours so someone may have polished it a little before I got it. Love this gun though and don't see enough post about the 67.

BTW, mine is serial number 3K63462, just a little earlier than yours. Roy Jinks says mine was shipped in October 1973.

Here is a pic of my 67-1. When I bought it recently it was covered with fine scratches. I used a fine metal polish on it and it really shined up. Not the satin look of the NIB versions, but I like it anyway!!

I love the tapered-barrel 67s and those shown so far are beautiful, absolutely gorgeous guns.

My best shooter is a no-dash 67. This particular 67 has the nicest trigger pull of any revolver I've ever shot. I do better with it than I did with my 14-4 with the target trigger and hammer. Maybe someone slicked up the trigger sometime before I got it?

IMO, I think the 67s and 64s with the tapered barrels are the coolest, bar none. My 67 is a better shooter than my no-dash 64 but I do like the 64's simpler lines a little more. Both, however, are quite sweet to look at and to shoot. Now, if only they had made a stainless Model 18....

My model 67 no dash purchased new in 1972 has a very smooth satin finish that has more of a sheen unlike my later S&Ws of more recent vintage (1990's). The finishing process appears to have been more refined than those I have from later years in my opinion.

Actually, the shine on the cylinder of my 67 is the way the finish looks on the whole gun. The flash on my camera had given the frame a duller satin appearance than it really appears in person. Yes, it's amazing how close the serial numbers on our 67's are!

Thanks again Bigun, I feel better now. That's exactly what mine looks like over all. I was a little confused when I saw your picture of the finish on the frame.
Case closed.....I absolutely love the lines on the tapered barrel 67 and the balance is wonderful.:)
