I have never ordered from Midway USA so I ask those here that have.

Is this a decent place to purchase from by mail?

I ordered a very small part. It was not what I consider to be a reasonable priced item but they had what I needed (pachmyer swivels). The part was $21.00. Then they added $3.00 special handling, $3.38 in shipping and another $2.60 in special charges. So I am paying almost $9 above the cost of the item or pretty close to half of the item cost in handling and shipping fees.

This seems high to me but as I said I need the swivels.

Now they say First Class shipping. I will beging looking for it mid week.

But I have to wonder about all those tacked on fees for an item that is small and should not be that expensive to begin with.

Your experience with them has been????

mine has been flawless.
Midway has yet to do me wrong. I do understand the bite your taking on S&H though ... call this one a personal trust test for future orders where you order multiple items which offset the shipping quite nicely.
Given your location I figure Tuesday at the latest. they are usually quick about it

I've ordered numerous times, though I refuse to buy any single small item for just the reason you mentioned. Service has always been fast and the items as described, you just need to spend at least $75 or so to justify the shipping.

Look at CDNN, they have a flat $9.99 shipping charge, Great if you order a bunch of stuff, not good for the $9 Sile grips.

Well, for one, I never place an order under $25, so I never incur that special fee. :) Hopefully, now that you know about it, you won't ever again (they've got something else you need when you want to place that little order, trust me - I just keep a shopping cart running with small items in it until I get around to placing a bigger order, and their "wish list" feature is good for rounding out orders to avoid the too-small-order fee).

Anyhow, I've had great experiences with Midway USA for years - not always the cheapest but usually in the ballpark and their customer service has been great (fast shipping, frequent updates on orders, and immediate no-questions-asked-replacements/you-keep-the-wrong-stuff-we-shipped service on those two orders that they goofed up). They've earned my business.

I have always had great service from Midway. Normal orders placed Sunday are at my house by Wednesday.

I concur with the previous posters. Their customer service is excellent. I too was a bit perturbed about what I thought was a too-high shipping cost on the range bag I bought, but the deal on the bag mitigated that for the most part. I also try not to order a single small item so I can avoid the little fees.

I have used them for a long time.

They have a minimum $25 purchase, or you get hit with the fee. It is not hidden it shows right on your invoice.

The have very fast shipping and have been using US mail on some things to lower shipping costs.

My only gripe is that when I build up a order and go to place it there is always something out of stock or when I buy stuff, they next day or week it goes on sale or I get a discount of $10 of $100 of regular price items.

Their return policy is excellent.

Just don't buy ammo, powder or primers, they are very high on those and charge two haz mat fees if ordering powder and primers as they ship from different locations.

All and all a good company that has most everything as they say.

They were the only place that had brand new straight back factory grips in stock for the 4006/3. Ordered them and they arrived two days early.

larry potterfield plz adopt me. i use priority mail, get my stuff in two business days. midway rocks. ps try there silicone treated gun socks, there excellent.

I pretty much have a similar story. Really wanted a dvd bad, didn't need anything else, took the bullet and ordered even though it was outrageously priced at $27.99. If that wasn't bad enough when I got to shipping it was $9.00 for the cheapest. I don't remember the choices but it seemed strange they didn't have a USPS media mail but they probably have reasons for the way they do things. This was my first time ordering from them and I said it would be the last. Well, it hasn't been, they are really good on most things and have just about anything we would want, with a fair price usually, except for shipping. I think there system lets a single item, very lite in weight slip through with high cost to buyer. If the buyer is dumb enough ... or if the shoe fits ... you know what I mean.

BTW, the dvd is great. :)

I have used them several times I can only add that yes you want to make your order count! The order has been quick to get to me as well.Shipping is big now and so are extra fees that did not show up not all that long ago. They are good to deal with.

I am happy to hear they are a reputable company. It saddens me that companies have to jack shipping prices up to justify labor cost or profits.

What is wrong with just charging actual mailing / shipping costs?

I`ve ordered many times from Midway. They are excellent except for their shipping costs.
I tend to wait until I have several things to order at once. That way the shipping costs are not so bad.

My steel supplier delivers for free (their flat-bed truck) as long as I buy $150.00 worth of steel, otherwise there's a $30.00 delivery fee.

I just plan it so I always spend at least $150.00 which is not hard to do.

I've ordered from Midway...I like them. :)

I've been a dealing with Midway for 20 years, never had any problems, just wait till I work up enough items to place an order. also if you have a C&R you get dealer prices which most of the time will more than cover the shipping.

5 orders with them in the last 3 weeks. Everyone of them was perfect and shipped quickly. No problem recomending them.

Midway is a pretty good company to buy from but their shipping is high in my opinion. To help cut down on shipping a friend and I go in together and order several items. Both orders were way over $25 each. After we get our order we figure our shipping as if we had ordered separately. It cost us 1 cent extra in shipping and it all came in one box. Go figure!!! Don

I remember "FREE SHIPPING"

Those were the days. but the reality caught up with Larry. My only beef is if you let them Back Order then that item incurs it's own shipping fees and that can be outrageous. I now open new windows in my browser and look for the same items at Natchezss, Graff's and Larry's. Occasionally Midsouth as well. It pays to compare. YMMV
