Heads up for new thumb latches

Those are not exact replacements. They have squared off checkering instead of oval shaped at the front of the thumb concave, also they are checkered cross hatch, instead of diagonally. Just saying, they won't look like original equipment.

What is the advantage that these offer over the stock thumblatches?

If I wanted one just for range use, I have been looking at the Hogue thumblatches.

I've been looking at these for a while and if I had 25.00 burning a hole in my pocket I would get one for my 617.

This is what SDM says about their latches...

"CNC machined, bar stock, (as opposed to the MIM stuff now) thumb latch gives S&W K, L and N frame revolvers true, 30 lpi checkering that "sticks" to your thumb for positive contact when unlatching the cylinder. Models available for both the Old, rounded style and the New, angular style latches. Careful manufacturing processes ensure that checkering stays sharp with no peening."

Bar stock and sticky checkering is good in my book.

I use the Hogue latches on my USPSA and ICORE revolvers. They are great for the intended purpose.
