6906 VS Glock 19

How much difference is the size between the Glock 19 and 6906?
I am looking for something a little smaller than the G19 and with all the 6906 trade in's they are a good value. I am looking at the 6906 for CCW using a IWB holster. Is there a noticeable difference in size? Please post a pic together if you have both.

Size wise they are pretty close. The 19 is my carry gun, I bought the 6906 as a possible replacement, but the thought of it sitting in some Police Department's rust bucket is too much for me to bare.

I used to have a 6906 and currently own a G19. The 6906 is actually a bit wider in the grip than the Glock, and heavier as well. It's a great gun, but it won't be much of an improvement in the size department.

the 6906 is a tad thinner slide wise , carry iwb made me choose it instead of my glock 23.

I still think of that line of logic as the real reason for "Glock Perfection"... That is why despite all the different guns that I have, the Glock 17 was at my bedside for many years now. She is departing soon though for my new to me M&P40c.

I like Glocks, are great for what they are. At the time I was having a lot of feed problems with my GEN 4 19 and I was going to dump it. I bought that 6906 and took them both to the range together. The 6906 was flawless and the Glock was too. After a few more flawless range trips with the Glock I decided it was just going through growing pains and is good to go, so I never replaced it as my carry gun.

The 6906 could be properly compared to a SIG, but not a Glock. One of the local police departments here, of which my good friend and hunting/fly fishing buddy is an officer, issues SIGS to their officers.

None of them want Glocks. The 6906 is of the same quality, fit,feel and finish as a fine SIG. There is really no comparison to a Glock.

I'm not a Glock hater. They work, and some are very accurate. They remind me of Mossberg shotguns. They are cheap, and they usually work. Yet I have no desire to own one. If I buy another polymer framed gun, it would be a Walther PPS for a stricker fired version or maybe an M&P. For a hammer fired polymer gun (hammer fired is my preference) it would be a no brainer for an FN or maybe an H&K. But no Glocks for me please (unless someone wants to give me one- I'm not stupid!)

I have a Gen 3 Glock 19 and it is a good pistol. I have several small pistols, S&W 642, 60, and a Ruger LCP. I am looking for a full size grip, but a little smaller than the G19 for every day concealed carry. Birmingham Pistol Wholesale has Gen 3 6906's with Novak sights for $299. I was wondering if the 6906 was slightly smaller for IWB carry.

The best S&W 9MM auto for concealed carry is the 3913. Nice, slim single stack grip. The only drawback is 9 rounds of fight stopper vs. the 13 you get in a 6906. I have one of each; former LEO department trades.

VTHokiesDuckHunter is correct- the 3rd Generation Smiths compare to SIG pistols not the plastic fantastic Glock. Need a new Smith M&P to compare to Gaston's pistols.

I have a S&W 6906, and a Model 19.

I carry the 6906. I greatly prefer the DA/SA trigger, and the Novak sights

The Glock 19 is a nice pistol, and very popular as a CC weapon.

But, I've never heard of anyone shooting themselves in the leg, or elsewhere, with a S&W 6906. It seems fairly 'common' with Glocks.

And, I greatly prefer the grip angle of the 6906.

I have never figured out WHY Gaston Glock put the grip angle of a Luger on a 'modern' firearm.

John Browning got it right in the 1911(and earlier pistols) and most 'modern' manufacturers seem to agree.

I don't know if the grip angle on the 6906 is identical to the 1911.....but it must be pretty close.

I won't sell my 6906. The Glock.... yes, if i needed something to trade.

Never owned a 6906 but I used to own a 669. I carried it a lot for a few years because it was pretty handy. I never quite warmed up to the
trigger and the magazine safety however and traded it off in disgust
after being unable to hit an already wounded feral cat with several shots. Sorry cat lovers but it was on my property and had been killing
small game. I now own a Glock 19, 2nd or 3rd generation, not sure
which, and I wouldn't trade it for any S&W nine. To me it isn't a matter
of slight size differences. I like the rugged simplicity and accuracy of
the Glock and think the 19 is their overall best model.

By the way, regarding your comments on the 39134 being the best compact 9mm fro CCW- I heartily agree! And will add that my personal every day carry/CCW piece is the 4014, which is the same basic gun as the 3913 but in .40 S&W. And of course the last digit "4", like in the 3914 variant of the 3913, means that it has a blackened finish.

So the 4014 is an alloy framed compact S&W 3rd gen in .40 S&W, with an 8 round single stack magazine. Alloy frame.

My favorite 3rd gens are:

3913/3914
4014/4013
4040 (Shorty 40)
6906 (for those that need higher capacity in a compact 3rd gen)

I really wish S&W would bring back these great all metal compact carry guns! Can you imagine a run of these in scandium frames?

Is the slide the same on the 3913 as the 6906? Just the frame is thinner, correct?

It all comes down to preference.
Think of a Glock 26, smaller then the G19 and Smith.
The G26 is lighter fully loaded than the Smith is empty, if that matters.
I have both, but carry a G29. I am a 10mm nut.
I see G26's used for $400 or so all the time.

The 19 any day. I won't be contributing to the increasing demand and prices for 3 gen smiths, I lived through that era. Plastic is just better for some things. I won't miss my analog cell phone either.

I owned a S&W 469, Glock 19, and Sig P228 at one time. The guns were close in size, weight, and capacity. Due to the integral front sight on the 469, I could not put night sights on it, unlike the Glock & Sig. My Sig was the most accurate of the three pistols, for me, though I do not claim to be that great of a pistol shot.

I sold the 469 and gave the Glock to my son. I still have the Sig and another Glock 19. I sold my S&W 908, which I loved as a carry gun, and replaced it with a 3913. I did not like it as much as the 908, traded it off for a Glock 17. I am currently searching for a S&W 908s.

I rotate the Sig P228 & Glock 19 with two Glock 26's.

Thanks for all your advice. I bought a S&W 3914. This is thinner than my G19.

I like my 3rd Gen S&W's, but when I step up to the Glock I have to have the full size G17. I don't have overly large hands, just wide. So when running reloads with something like the 19/23(won't even mention the 26/27) I have usually get a nasty blood blister at the base of my palm. Glock puts a pretty wide base on their mags so the shorter guns tend to bite me.

The issue between the Glock 19 and 6906 is primarily weight. The S&W does have second strike capability whereas the Glock does not, but I'm all for dumping a bad round with either. I prefer the DA/SA of the 6906 but will use/carry either.

Either is very reliable, both have adaquate capacity, and accuracy of both is excellent.
