Is there any possible way of taking out the firing pin of the M&P? I want to give my rifle a thorough cleaning, all the nooks and crannies

I haven't done it, but there are 2 pins on the bolt, as I understand one holds extractor the other one (bigger) holds the pin...

Unless you are having some particular problem, there is no reason to remove the firing pin. If you feel it needs cleaning, simply squirt some GunScrubber into the channel and then blow it out with compressed air. If you want to lube it, squirt a little DRY graphite into the channel.

Unless something is out of the ordinary, it should not be necessary to clean the firing pin channel more often than 10k rounds, if then.

I believe the OP is referencing his AR M&P.

No mention of it being an AR and this is the 15-22 forum. :)

Lack of sufficient information always brings confusion. :)

I see that now. That's what happens when you click on new posts, read a thread title and don't scan all the way to the right to see which forum it's in. I saw M&P and rifle in the OP and took it from there. Looks like I wasn't alone reading some of the other posts.
I also wasn't aware they had given their .22 AR the M&P moniker, either.
See, you learn something new every day.

The name of the forum is M&P 15-22 :)

The .223 version is simply the M&P 15.

....

I'm quite aware of that now.
Like I said in my last post, "That's what happens when you click on "New Posts", read a thread title and don't scan all the way to the right to see which forum it's in." If I had done that in the first place, I wouldn't have bothered posting as I could have figured that out myself.

Join the club - many of us have done the same thing. If not here, then certainly on some other forum. :)

I got the roll pin out of the bolt of my M&P15-22 and took out the firing pin, and i gotta say That sumbitch was DIRTY! a little lube won't knock out the little carbon puck that was in there :)

This is what I've done, after my break in period of around 1200 rounds, I cleaned with Gun Scrub, lubricate with Tetra Lube. This helped eliminate powder blow by build up. I also lubed the extracting arm (in it's position).Tetra Lube is great at coating the metal and making powder build up easy to remove. Now on my full size AR, the bolt carrier and bolt would be caked with powder, you need to scrub it clean. After Tetra Lube, the powder came off easier than before. This was my experience using this product, so I just carried it over to the M&P 15/22 since I am planning to shoot this more than my 5.56 round AR15. good luck.
