How many people do you take to the range?

If i'm test firing a new 1911 pistol or a semi auto rifle for reliability and dependability i like to take 3 or 4 guys at the sametime. The 3 or 4 of us can rack up 250rds really fast.

Since my days off are during the week I usually go by myself, which isn't all that bad, you get in a lot of shooting that way. Other times if my son comes home from dallas to visit we almost always get in at least one afternoon at the indoor range. I actually enjoy watching him shoot more than shooting.

I know exactly what you mean. It is fun to have company but if you have too many, you don't get to enjoy any shooting yourself. I personally prefer to go by myself most of the time with "occasionally" bringing a guest. Any more than 2 guests is more of a chore than a pleasure not only because I don't get to shoot as much, but also because we usually end up shooting a bunch of guns from my collection...and guess who gets to clean all those guns??

Amen Brother!
I really don't mind cleaning the guns but recently time seems to be tight and I have the memory of my father saying "Never let the sun set on a dirty gun.. "

When I am serious, working up a load or zeroing a new rifle, being by myself seems to work best.

My shooting pard and I go out with no-one else. It would get in the way of our harassing each other about missing or hitting too good and not making good use of a full target. 'Sides, we shoot as much bull as lead.......:)

Yup. When I take the wife it's about her practice and I still need to keep an eye on her. I get bit of practice in tho.

She's pretty good about letting me have my own trips alone or with my shootin' buddy.

I take myself, and my wife.

I have always solved the problem of "taking someone" along with me anywhere, be it fishing, shooting, hunting, to the ball game or whatever, by simply not announching "I'm going such and such..." I just get up and go.

I'm going to the range tomorrow. I only seem to go four or five times a year, and everyone wants to go with me. Tomorrow I'm taking my nephew, my brother-in-law, my Mom, my friend and his daughter. I won't get to shoot much, because I'll be helping them and playing "range officer."

One of the reasons I don't go often is because it's a 50 mile round trip. There's a private range closer, and I've thought about joining, but I can only take one guest at a time. I also occasionally think about sneaking out and going by myself, but I'd feel a little guilty about leaving someone behind that's been asking me to go, and honestly, I do enjoy the company.

Thank you for your kindness and patience with your shooting guests. Ours sport/hobby is an endangered species. The more people we introduce to it the better. Shooting is a skill that must be learned and practiced. People like us keep others interested and ranges open for everyone to enjoy. We are all aware of the ever present threat to our gun rights.

Maybe I just wrote this to vent a little. Thanks for listening. But if you have any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them.:o

Never been to range. I am fortunate to have enough land to have put together a 25 yard and 100 yard range of my own. I ask folks over to shoot with me and often I am out there by myself. I enjoy shooting with others and frequently induce visitors to join me. I am sure I miss out on some aspects of shooting by not visiting a range and one of these days I will get to one.

Usually it's just my son and me,,,If my adopted English daughter is here it's her, my daughter, SIL and son.
When my English daughter is over I let her pick her choice of firearms.;)

Update: Everyone backed out but my nephew. We went and shot for about 2 1/2 hours. He had a great time with his Marlin Model 60 and my Walther P-22. I sighted in my KelTec SUB2000 in .40 S&W, got some squirrel/rabbit practice with my scoped Marlin 60, and then had some single action .22 fun. When we left the range, we met his dad for lunch, then proceded to the gun show, where two of us got new (to us) shotguns. All in all, a pretty good day! Oh, and my wife's boss bought me a ribeye steak at the best steakhouse in Tulsa last night!

I think I saw one other post where the individual stated he would take his wife. When I go to the range it's almost always me and the wife. She likes to shoot just as much as I do and since we both have our CW license we try to shoot often,;)
I don't like shooting with someone I don't really know, I watch them like a hawk.

My range is my back porch, so as many as I can get to stop by. Between my house, the house on the next 70 acres behind me and two houses across the street, someone is shooting daily where we live. Love the country!
