Gas Prices are making me nauseous!

South of I80 on the Mississippi river, I'm seeing $3.54 - $3.67 today. In my town, it jumped from $3.59 to $3.67 over night. It's still what I would call cold here, but guess I've got to get the wife's scooter fired up anyway.

I think we have plenty of oil, just don't have the refining capacity. There has not been a new refinery built in the last 35 to 40 years & the current refineries are operating @ 100 percent or better.

Edit to add: DO NOT turn this into a political thread.

Fair warning...

How can you not make it political, when it is the politician's who keep allowing the public to be raped when it comes to fuel.
This might help:

Political discussion = Points and a deleted post

How can we have this "disgustion" long without getting political? It`s like trying to discuss religion without saying God! By the way how do I patton that word?
We don't discuss religion on this board either.

Let's steer this thread away from the obvious political implications and look at the silver lining of this dark cloud.

Now is a GREAT TIME to buy an SUV. When gas hit $4.25 around here a few years ago, I bought a cream puff, low mileage Tahoe at 1/3 of the "Loan Value". I laid out cash in long green dollars and the dealership paid all of the Doc Fees, the State Sales Tax and delivered it to my house with a full tank of gas.

The previous owner traded in a $20,000 truck for a $3500 credit on a Prius which she paid well over list to get.

You boy's ain't going to like this but I'm thinking it ain't high enough yet! Just yesterday coming home from work (I drive 70 miles round trip) on the E way I was getting passed by everyone and their brother, I drive 65 to save gas and I'm telling you that a guy can get run over real fast. The same people that cry about gas prices won't be bothered with trying to lower their cost of driving by using their right foot a little less. Seems that people today want someone else to fix their problem instead of changing the way they do business. Maybe if gas gets to $6.00 a gallon these people won't be able to drive their 4/4s,Suv's and every thing else 80 miles per hour. Just my 2 cents.

Gas went up $0.75 a gallon here since I last filled up 3 weeks ago. If overnight everyone in the country wound up driving a 40mpg car, oil companies would cut back refinery production and raise prices to $6-$7 anyway. Profits would increase for them and production/labor costs would go down. This problem has existed 40+ years and no one in a position to do so has addressed it. Heads should have rolled decades ago.

Western PA. Reg. $3.79.9 Mid. $389.9, Premium $409.9 Diesel $419.9 Clear Kerosene $4.39.9.

The most I ever paid for gas was three years ago in Elkins WV. $413.9 for regular. During that summer a large number of rural gas stations quit selling gas. I'm sure the mountainous areas of WV will be hitting $4 in the next week or so. In many regions of The Mountain State residents are 40 to 60 miles one way from a real grocery store, so that $4 a gallon gas really hurts.

prices in west central indiana....

are right $4 gal. yesterday i filled up at the shell station where i go at times because they have a decent car wash. my 98 subaru outback was on 1/4 of tank full and it still cost me $40 to fill up .... pus $8 for the wash !
i will not be getting thew wash job any time soon again . weather is good enough in 3-4 weeks i can hook my hose back up in my garage and do the washes myself !
also my bike , read that pedal kind , will be back in action soon. just need a little warmer weather to ride it to work on a daily basis .
have to add we have pretty much done this to ourselves . i dont know about your areas where everyone lives , but here i look around at all these little gals driving large hulking vehicles like expeditions , and taho's and there is mostly no real need they have to put a vehicle like that on the road . or someone driving a dually truck that doesnt REALLY use that vehicles capeability twice a year.
i like my old subaru a lot but am thinking about going to something like to honda civic because they better my mileage by at least 8-10 mpg

Really?.....

Again, I have to ask. How I did this to myself? What act did I personally perform that drove the price up over 63% in the last two years.?

Tell me please so that I can go back and undo it with the sure and certain knowledge that the price will go back down to $2.35.

You use the "DIVINE WE" so you must be talking about both you and me...

$3.54 for regular unleaded but my ol' hot rod needs middle grade so it's $3.62 a gallon for me. I only get around 14mpg in town but my truck is fun to drive and that makes a difference to me. Folks will spend hundreds of dollars to go to Disney Land to have fun riding the rides, all I have to do is hop in my truck and run it up to 5500rpm to get the same effect. LOL. :D
