I picked up some of the Buffalo Bore 158 Gr. SWCHP +P for evaluation/possible use in my BUG (S&W 642-1, no lock). Shot 6 rounds, 3 right handed, 3 left handed (both with a one hand grip, as that is most likely how it would be used. This load is one potent load! Shootable, and feels no worse than a .357 145 gr. Silvertip through my 3" M-65. Anyone else tried this load in a 442/642? Opinons?

Not me, I like my hands with the bones in the right place. ;)
Actually I have a couple of boxes given to me of Win 125gr +P SJHP that I shoot a couple of cylinders full from my 642 BUG at the range occasionally. But most of my practice with that gun is with standard 38's. Shooting more than a few rounds of those +P are just a little too 'sharp' for these old hands. I can't imagine shooting a notoriously supercharged round like the BB +P in my 642.

And, just curious, if you took note, how was the return to target time with the BB?

I was able to put two rounds into the COM of a IALEFI-Q target (8" circle) at three yards in 2 seconds. Did this 3 times (6 rounds total). Didn't really feel a need to shoot any more than this :)

I tired them, I found the difference in my abliity to get on target is more important then heavy recoil.

I use non +P LSWCs, either Winchester or my reloads (loaded to the same velocity).

I can shoot them all day without discomfort.

I just feel more confident with the standard loads over the heavy +Ps,

I believe confidence plays a big roll in a SD revolver/load.

This was fired at 15 feet, 15 rounds. The above load out of my 642.

I'd never considered using Buffalo Bore in my J-frame. That's way too much for me, plus it's an Model 38 Airweight Bodyguard. I don't even use a +P round, let alone the kind of loads Buffalo Bore puts out. Even if it was an all steel gun, I don't think I'd do it.

If it works for you, though, great. You should always use what ammo gives you confidence and accuracy.

I had some BB and the biggest problem I had was very sticky extraction out of my 442 & M&P 340 - the empties had to be plucked out by hand. They are hot enough that the recoil is about the same as .357 in the 340. A bit too much for me too.

I"d like to try some in my model 49 Bodyguard, but the only place around here that stocks them is over 1hr away. I keep Remington/UMC 125gr. SJHP +Ps in the little gun now, as I got a good deal on their value-packs.

BB's 150gr. full wadcutter load looks like what I want out of a defensive round, but no on carries Buffalo Bore ammo in Nashville that I've seen.

I use the Buffalo Bore load mentioned in all of my +P rated guns and the standard pressure BB load of the same weight & bullet design in my non+P guns.

I haven't fired a lot of either through my guns, just enough for reliabilty testing and then it's on to carry only.

One thing's for certain, if someone mixed the Buffalo Bore & Remington 158 gr. LSWC HP's in a cylinder I could easily tell you which one was which after firing. Poof, poof, bam, poof, bam!! ;)
