where I found mine, in a few minutes specifically looking for one just for you.

Rapidray C&S did the dovetailed on fp with gold bed front sight. wallowed out the trough, smoothed and radiused the trigger, action work,carry melt, and I love it. Shoots great and I carry it evey day as evidenced by the marks.

My two, top is 649-1 and bottom 49 both were BUG's

My 649 is also a Michigan State Police BUG. Got it from a Trooper.

I want to go on the record about the J Frame "Banana" Grips.

Prior to buying them here in the classifieds I did a google site search
and learned that they couldn't be used with speed loaders, which was
fine by me because, more often than not, I use speed strips.

Last night I did try using a Safariland speed loader, and just
like others had said here, there wasn't enough clearance.

Since I have done quite a bit of work on wooden canoe parts over
the years, reshaping of thwarts & refinishing etc., I may buy a set
of the Banana's and see what I can do to "open them up a bit."

Ajax grips. The company is no longer in business but you can usually find them on ebay.

In post #14 of this thread I mentioned that I had picked up an old (Dec.1985)
Michigan State Poilce M649 that had been used as a MSP back-up gun.

This was one of those guns that had seen a lot of use and was in need of some TLC.

A Power Custom Shim took care of the end shake problem & a good cleaning
fixed the slow timing issue on two of the chambers. A couple of hours (by hand)
with the liquid version of Flitz brought it back as far the finish issues were concerned.

I was lucky in the fact that while looking for another set of J Frame Grips
for another gun I came across these in a box of J Frame Grips I forgot
I had, stashing them away before my J-Frame Days.

After installing a Wilson 8 lb. mainspring & 15 lb. rebound I ended up with
an average weight on the DA (double action) trigger pull of 9 lb's 6 oz's so now
it's time to do a little reliablity testing before adding it to the carry stable
so it can go back to doing what it had so obviously done for so many years.....

Edited later to add:
The lighter mainspring mentioned above gave me 2 light primer strikes out of
150 rounds, 1 with Blazer (CCI primers) & the other with Remington ammo.
Because of this I swapped out the lighter Wilson mainspring for a stock 8.5 lb.,
"factory fresh" spring. After the swap to the heavier mainspring I ended up with an
average double action trigger pull weight of 10 lb's 2.5 oz's, still using the Wilson rebound sp.

those Grips, while lookin' for some for you know what , stashed in a
small box in the top of a closet was like a "blind squirrel finding a nut."

I just got off of the phone with the FFL and I'll be dropping yours off after
he gets out of work later today, so it won't be long now my friend......

At the risk of all of my photo's looking the same, here are a couple of
ladder13's M649-3 taken yesterday in between some storms that rolled
through Michigan. I was surprised to hear that a Tornado hit just south of
here about the same time I was out takin' these photo's.

Verrry short story

I was looking for a 649-3, Jack offered to look around for me, he found this gun in 3 or 4 days. I had like 5 forum members offering to look for this gun, and many thanks to them all. Jack seemed OBSESSED with finding me a 649-3, and I wish to thank him immensely for doing that. It even comes with the box.

It turned out far better than I could have ever imagined it would,
based on how it looked when I first laid eyes on it.

I knew it had potential, but how much was a, "we'll see" proposition.

Now the little bugger is working it's way on to my favorites list!!
