Glock Knuckle Got Me

I was well on my way from a 1911 fanatic to a Glock convert. Fell for all the advertising and how good the Glock was. Have several friends who are Glock fanatics.
Bought several Glocks and really liked the G 34 Gen 3 ( Tactical Practical 9mm). Tried the 35 Gen 3 ( 40 cal) and the trigger guard starting banging the knuckle on my middle finger under my trigger finger. Then the 9mm started doing it. Learned this is a common thing with Glocks. Happens to a lot of folks. Have to dremel tool the Glock. Bah! ( Except for the Glock 45 which I have no problem with and still like).
Switched back to my custom1911's.Then I tried the S&W M&P and love them! Better ergonomics than Glocks ( those and the XD are the reason why Glock came out with Gen 4).
On my way to becoming a S&W M&P fanatic. Have one with Apex trigger and one 9mm Pro - nice trigger. Two 45's.
Had a 40 had to send back to Smith.
No more Glock knuckle!

You'd never catch me saying a bad thing about Glock, in fact if someone were looking to break into the pistol world I'd tell them to start looking there first. But they aren't for everybody and my problems were with the standard sized Glocks (the 9mm and .40 cal) and the webbing of my hand would get chewed up from the slide. The larger Glocks like my G21 would not do it but the lack of a beaver tail on the 9mm pistols forced me to look somewhere else. I didn't like the XDm and the M&P just looked so good and it felt even better. After picking one up in 9mm, the 4.25" Pro, I decided I needed an M&P45 to complement it. Now several months later, the M&P45 has taken it's place as my favorite, every day carry and IDPA gun. I actually sold off 3 of my Glocks to fund an AR purchase. There are still models of Glocks I'd love to add to the collection and as much as it hurt to admit it, I'm now an M&P guy instead of a Glock guy.

i bought my first glock this year, mod. 30 sf in .45. only one i'll likly own. hate the sights, hate the trigger, hate the factory mags, and every third of fourth spent casing seems to hit me in the head. not hard enough to break the skin, but it does sting a little. all that said, i would and do trust my life to it on an almost daily basis. they never fail to go bang. all my autos can not say the same, save for my xd .45 compact.

I just bought my first Glock, also bought the 30SF. I have been waiting for so long for the SR1911 to come in that I was willing to pay a higher price at a new Cabelas in Wichita (I had a 50.00 coupon card that would have got the SR1911 within a hundred bucks of my LGS where I've been waiting for about 10 months for him to be able to get me one). Well, this store got 20 SR1911's in, sold them all on their opening day. I really wanted to go home with a 45 ACP, would have looked at the M&P, but they were sold out of ALL M&P pistols. Saw the 30SF and the 36 side by side and checked them both out. 6 round mag in the 36 and that skinny grip just felt all wrong (and with the norm for Glock mags, I imagine 5 rounds would be more like it). When I got ahold of the 30SF I thought it felt perfect! 10 rnd mag, and while I did load it with 10, it's quite a force to insert mag with slide close and leaves a nice scratch in the top bullet from doing so.. So I have dropped back to 9 rounds in the mag. If I really want that 10th round, it'll be a 9+1 for me.

Shot great right out of the box, felt real similar to my M&P40c in recoil, but maybe not quite as snappy. I too noticed it was dropping most of the cases from my elbows to my hat. One went about 6' behind and I have no idea how one managed to go about 6' to my right. This was winchester white box 230grn.

I had always wanted to get a glock, but never seemed to walk out with one. Usually opting for a Ruger of some sort or my 40c.

I bought my first Glock, a G30, 7 or 8 years ago and within 2 weeks, I'd gone back and bought a G17. Love them both. Never a malfuntion, sights are farely well regulated and they just seem to get smoother with age. I've always been a big 1911 fan and have several and would not hesitate to pick one up for self defense, but putting the G30 and a 1911 side by side and asking me to choose between the two for every day carry, I'd choose the G30. I went through a phase when I just gave up on S&W and didn't even consider them when looking at new handguns because of their cave in to the antis with their internal locks and transfer bars, however, I'd already bought my Glocks by the time I'd somewhat recovered from that and just have no need or desire to add a S&W auto to the mix now.

I've got 7 Glocks and they all have been "Perfection". The first one was a Gen2 G23 purchased in the mid 1990s

Congrats on getting rid of your Glock knuckle! The only thing perfect about a Glock is their marketing department that created their fan-boy following. The gun itself is darn good (in 9mm and .45) but they are far from perfect, no gun is.

I had a Gen I G19 for a year or so. Never got used to it. Sold it.
Then I had a Gen II G19 for a year or so. Never got used to it. Sold it.
I had a Gen IV G19 for about eleven minutes. I hated it. Sold it.
It seems I keep forgetting that I don't like them, or I'm wanting to like them and don't. At least they continue to get a chance, and I rarely lose money on them. When I do, I consider it "education expenses".

That has been my experience and I think it does have a lot to do with a healthy respect for Glock. Not the first but definitely the most influential firearm since the 1911 probably. At one point I've owned 7 Glocks (17, 19, 21, 22, another 21, 26 and 35) and now I'm working on trading off my 2nd to last Glock. Only the big 21 has stayed and it has been a very faithful and reliable weapon. Going on 6000 rounds in less than 2 years it still chugs and chugs never skipping a beat but after shooting the M&P side by side, doing my own T & E on feel, grip, trigger etc, I felt that giving up the 3 extra rounds the G21 had to go to the M&P45 wasn't much of a sacrifice since I felt I was in a better gun for me.

I own a G17 Gen4 and a G19 Gen4. I like their minimalist, efficient design. They are easy to work on. There is a ton of after market support. $35 in parts, and I can lighten a trigger for a range only gun. Conversely, I can make the trigger pull heavier, smooth, for a defensive gun.

That being said, I went out and bought a M&P 9 just out of curiosity. The ergonomics are excellent. The design does a good job of mitigating recoil and muzzle flip. The factory trigger (for me) is just fine the way it is. The stock sights are easier to use than Glock OEM sights.

I won't trade my Glocks for anything, but I'm not going to buy another one.
