I know SW are re-introducing the 586's but have not seen any for sale yet. Does anyone know when they are going on sale?

Thanks!

Yes, they are out there in the wild and on S&W website. In fact, I could buy one if I wanted to at my LGS. They have ONE in stock. And I have a feeling it's gonna be there a while. This particular LGS caters more to the plastic gun crowd. They are square butt and have the IL.

Only my opinion that nobody asked for..... But why would anyone want a new 586 remake when there are many originals out there! Are they actually going to be as good as the original? I would only guess that the new one would be priced much higher too! I got a 586 no dash a few weeks back, and now it is 1 of my favorites! Bob

Not as cool as my 3" 65-3 though!

I will not be buying one of them..I personally do not like the lock..The new 586 will have a lock in it... I personally wouls rather buy a used one with no lock and pre mim parts...

Yes they are out there, I saw one as well in my local gun shop. I know this is like beating a dead horse but I wish Smith would do the classic line without the internal lock especially since they have been making runs of 442's and 642's without the internal lock and those are selling well.

I haven't seen any yet. I'd like one even more if they made it with a 7 shot cylinder. Not concerned about the lock. I would prefer they didn't use it, but no sleep lost over it so far..... S&W is making some very nice revolvers now.

Here's my 4 inch version. Really nice gun!

I havent seen any, but it looks nice in mrwhite's picture. I dont prefer the lock, but what bothers me more than the lock itself is the loss of the classic deep curve of the frame that the prelock guns have in the hammer area because of the lock.

Will someone post a side by side pic of a new one and a similar older one to see them? I want a 586 and don't mind paying for a clean example. I am on the fence about a new one to stash away, not going to be a regular shooter for me, I just want one.

The gun looks fine, but those grips are something to be desired, are they real wood?

Yes the grips are wood... not quite as big as the old coke bottle style but close..
I did have one issue with it.. When I went to close the cylinder the face of the cylinder would physically contact the forcing cone on the rear of the barrel and left some scratches. I contacted S&W, sent back, they replaced with a new cylinder and it's as tight as a frogs behind now.. About 1 week turn around.

The biggest thing I was nervous about was how good the bluing would look... I'm so disappointed with the current S&W "Stainless Wire Brush Scratch" finish... but the bluing looks pretty decent... All in all, I'm please with the gun, looks good and shoots very well

Are we to believe S&W inspects these guns before shipment but didn't notice this? I've never been enough of a "fan boy" (as they say now a days) to believe they even looked at it. Just boxed it up and sent it out. What a sad commentary on a fine old company.

Mother's will fix the poor finish on the stainless guns.

I prefer the six shot cylinder. I like lots of steel for true 357 loads. My 640-1 and my K frames get reduced 357 loads but my 586 4" gets the full house 140 grain XTPs with lots of 296.
