What are my options in a .45 ACP Smith revolver

I should say up front with no lock and never had one. Otherwise I'd be plunking money down for a 325PD right now.

Years ago, late '80s if I remember right I had a beautiful stainless .45ACP revolver but it's long gone. I also remember having a blue one in a presentation box, maybe model of 1955-does that sound right?

Anyway, I'd appreciate anyone who could contribute toward me compiling a list of options. Guess I'll start scouring the shows. I'd prefer a 4" or shorter barrel but I'll consider anything within reason.

I do not know why you are fighting the urge, get on gunbroker and find an older model 625, you will not regret it. They are great revolvers. They can be found with both 3 and 4 " barrels.

Is that a 3", and is that a round butt? I thought the larger frame revolvers only came square.

I'm hoping to buy a S&W .45 when I'm 45 (that'll be October 2013-2014).

I was thinking of getting something like that 625 for shooting ESR in IDPA but saw another thread on here of someone who got a .45 Long Colt and had it converted to accept moon clips. He can now shoot .45 Auto and Long Colt out of the same revolver. I think I'd like that.

Until recently, I had been looking for a .45 acp revolver. I looked at the 625JMs, all of the models of 625-'s. I do not mind the lock and I looked at 325NG's, 325PD's....everything. Finall found what I liked at the right price. I found a 626-6 V-Comp, no lock. I am very happy with it. I love the way it shoots. I specifically wanted a stainless model, so I did not look at the 25's that were available. Good luck with your search.

There's quite a bit of leeway in cartridges too. Either, .45 GAP, .45 Auto Rim, .45 ACP, or the stouter .45 Super. Another, plus is the ability to have Clark Custom modify the gun to handle the mighty .460 Rowland round.

I bought a 6 inch 25-2 just because I like the 45 ACP round and wanted to play with it. It turns out to be one of my favorite shooters because it's accurate and with moon clips a hoot to shoot.

Another option....

This is a Hamilton Bowen 45acp conversion on a 28-2, I picked up at the Louisville Gunshow a few weeks back. It has a 1950 model barrel, shortened to 5".

I got bored again, picked up a 25-5 Long Colt cylinder off ebay & fit it to the gun.

Now I can shoot either.

Another option is this, a 25-7 or 25-9, in 45lc.

Send the cylinder to Pinnacle Firearms, have it modified for 45acp moon clips, and run both in same cylinder
