I encountered some ignorance at the grocery store today!

Honestly i have a couple: 2smith shirts, an international terrorist hunter shirt ( my buddy that got KIA gave it to me b4 he deployed) and a RIA 1911 shirt.
I wear them and i get looks but all i say is "unless youve had a horrible exp. with guns dont judge what i wear, its just a shirt"

Its my right as an AMERICAN to have guns and gun shirts. I really dont care what people think bout me. LIKE ME HATE ME IM ALWAYS HERE.

I do wear gun logo'd clothing on occasion, don't think it bothers too many folks, even here in California. ;)
But, I don't have gun related stickers on my vehicles, don't want to advertise that guns may be inside my home when the cars are parked in front.
Otherwise, I don't care what the general public thinks. I do have an "Infidel" sticker on my truck though, most reactions to that are, "where can I get one"

Wow, the majority of responses in this thread amaze me and I agree totally with "michael thornton". I absoulutely refuse to go along with the modern day PC way of life in this country and to be quite honest, the OP did better than I would have if I were faced with a person like that, old woman or not. I wonder if she would like the shirt I have and wear that reads "Support Your Local Outlaw MC"!?!? Not that I do mind you but its my shirt and I'll wear it if and when I choose!

Perhaps she was just making a joke and you didn't get it. I would have just laughed and been on my way.

As far as not wearing gun t-shirts or hats, etc or putting bumper stickers on cars: I don't care what anyone else thinks about me and I'm not ashamed of being a gun guy. However, I am not interested in inviting thieves. I don't advertise to the public what may or may not be in my house. Nothing like having a "Want Guns? Follow me and burglarize me" bumper sticker on the truck.

"Pote" ~ I'd certainly give you a "super like" on that one but it isn't available on this site. Good one!

Welllll brothers in arms... this has been quite an educational thread. While l tend to keep a low profile about being a card carrying gun owner who carries a gun, l find myself pretty much being politically incorrect and have been all of my life. I grew up on a hog farm in north Texas (hog farms are a huge issue in this neck of the woods), l work in the oil patch, l drive a suburban (with no stickers other than an American flag and a KU Jayhawk) l wear gun related hats or Ts whenever l feel like it and l run with like minded men and women... man is it good to live in Oklahoma!:D

It did cross my mind that she may have been making a joke, but that is not the way she came across and I don't think that was the case. At any event I thought it best to ignore her.

I wear my NRA and HRA (Hawaii) T-shirts all the time.

Each to his own, but I would not leave a firearm in a car or truck unattended anyway, so I see no harm in a bumper sticker.

I think the OP handled it perfectly, by just ignoring the old lady. Still, it would be tempting to look her straight in the eyes with a 1000-yard stare and say, "Bang! You're dead." Just say'n.;):D

Several years ago, my daughter and I were going into Wally World, and I noticed she had left her purse on the seat of the truck. I said, "Don't leave that there. It's just screaming, 'Steal me. Steal me'. " She said, "It's all right, there's nothing in it."

I said, "The guy that broke my truck window to steal it does not know there is nothing in it."

And the guy that breaks into your car looking for a gun does not know that you don't keep one there. All he knows is "pro-gun bumper sticker means there MIGHT be a gun in the car", and decides it's worth a try.

I don't wear anything that identifys me as a gun owner. Would love to plant some GUN FREE ZONE signs in some anti's yards, but might get in trouble for littering.

I was driving to a job site one time, and something ran across the road in front of me (one lane dirt road in the woods). I stopped and backed up and cut the wheel so the headlights were shining on the field it went in. There was a fox standing there. So I just sat there a minute, looking at it. Never seen a live fox before.

All of a sudden the girl in the truck with me says, "Don't shoot it".

What??

I say, "Why would I shoot it?"

She says, "I know you've got a gun in the glove box. Don't shoot it".

Because, obviously, if I have a gun I am going to shoot anything that moves.

Ignorance abounds.

Back in the old A-Team series, Murdoch wore a T-shirt in an episode that I've always wanted to get. It said:

God, Guts, and Guns made America strong; let's keep it that way"

Yeah, like I'm gonna stop wearing my "Navy Veteran" or "Retired Navy" caps anytime soon!
Sorry but I'll wear what I damn well please, and if it offends the pasty types mission accomplished! I'm not here to coddle those who think I should conform to their way of life, I'd much rather live my own and if this makes me a target so be it! Besides I haven't had much fun of late, I think I'll go stir the pot a little! Dale

I find these kinds of threads most interesting. I assume that we wear these "firearms related "articles of clothing to elicit a response. I agree that we should wear what we want, within reason, but be aware that not everybody we come into contact with shares our beliefs. I do wear firearms related stuff, sometimes to make a political statement, sometimes just to show what I like. If the comments are positive, I am glad that others share in my enjoyment, if they choose to make negative statements, I try to use the opportunity to show them that not all gun owners are knuckle dragging Neanderthals. If I make my point, so much the better, if not, I am sure that is not the only thing in the world that troubles them. I am sure the gun related stuff is probably no more offensive than the Halliburton stuff I inherited from my Dad, again, if people choose to take offense that is their business.

There is a lot of paranoia and silliness in this thread IMO. There's nothing wrong with wearing your gun gear if you wish too. It's exactly this kind of hand wringing and lack of spirit that has given this country over to the anti-gunners and other morally questionable people.

If your ashamed of being a gun owner keep it quiet, otherwise stand up for what you believe in. Let me get this straight by your logic it's cool to have a gay pride parade, but wearing a Browning t-shirt is verboten?

Gun maker t-shirts do not attract the negative attention of LEO's. I've found the people with the NRA stickers are usually the ones who support Law enforcement and would stop and help if needed. I can't speak for LEO in Communistfornia, Mass etc. Keeping quiet and not standing up for your rights has already lost these areas to gun owners.

I think it comes down to the "Freedom of Choice" what an individual wants to do in society.

We all support the 2nd amendment. Some of us from California and Massachusetts even wore a uniform to show our support.

Thank you for your service.

I have always make it a rule never to wear anything out in the public that would ID myself as a LEO or "Gun Person".

Jimmy excellent advise, yet it's a sad state of affairs that we need to hide our career and hobby choices.
