It's a single stack 9mm or .40, your choice. In other news, S&W is reportedly(hearsay) starting a 3rd Shift to keep up with demand.

It may be hard to resist and I don't really like striker fired guns.

I don't doubt production at S&W is running full steam.
They're putting out some hot ticket items right now.My brother told me that Ruger has temporarily suspended new orders, too.
Looks like everyone is trying to get "ready" for whatever may be believed to be coming. Gun sales seem to be at an all time high.
People have always wanted a single stack Glock nine,so looks like S&W one upped them. The whole Glock saga of late has disgusted me. I'm keeping my old 2nd gens.,but very seriously doubt I'll ever buy another one.
Sorry,if I got off topic, here.Incidentally,I might like having a Shield provided it had a flat baseplate to make it more pocketable.

I"m one of the few people going through this "experience" myself. I've had Springfields and Rugers that always ran without problems. I finally broke down and bought a Gen 4 19....nothing but problems despite all the reliability they've had. I'm even considering selling/trading it to get a full sized M&P 40 lately.

May be a good idea.I bought a 3rd Gen 19 at steal. It had the dipped extractor and after 450 rounds I had FTE's galore.
Life's too short to deal with garbage.I sold it to my gunsmith and warned him about the problems.I've had my 2nd gens for years and never a problem.Thousands upon thousands of rounds.

Shield name kinda sucks!

" I have a M&P 9mm Shield", talk about confusing?

How about "The New M&P SSC"....Single Stack Compact.

Please send one of each my way for a full review:cool:.

I agree I like your name better, but "SSC Yourself" wouldn't work with the catchy "Shield Yourself" slogan in the ad on the S&W website. Makes all the sense in the world now that we know the name of the gun.

I thought they were bringing back the 4506 in honor of Vic Mackey, the lead character on "The Shield". If they are going to make a single stack M&P, I am sure it will be a huge hit, and it will trounce Glock. People have always wanted a single stack Glock. Those baby Glocks are too fat. I don't like striker fired guns, but if they make that with a manual safety or a mag disconnect (even better if they had both features for me), I will own one.

He's saying it's a doctored up photo.

I agree, I was wondering if he was going to point that at me. I did not take the photo, it came from a electronic sales distribution sent by Cheaper than Dirt. I copy&pasted it.

I have had enough positive dealings with them to believe the photo is to scale, whether original or not to them. I never found the site to be anything other than legit.

My primary point was here is what caliber etc it is.....

Thanks for posting the pic. Interesting little pistol. I hope they sell them without the goofy extended mag. Why make a tiny concealment pistol and then add grip length to it with an extended magazine? I like the single stack idea, wonder how many rounds it will hold. I'd like to see a side by side pic with a Glock 33.

Looks like we have to wait until noon time ET... At least that is what they posted in their FB page

I agree 100%.

guess we'll all be waiting till noon for the full detailed spec list. Anyone have a guess on when this will start to be available?

My guess is it will be like most large company hyped guns, production will trickle out at first, have a few recalls and be a year before most LGS have them. Which is fine, you do not want an early production gun in my experience, not since they stopped being put together by gunsmiths anyway.
