what kind of ammo are some of you using to hunt with you rifle? the game im mainly going to hunt is nurtia, amadillos, beavers, and squirells if that helps. are you using a solid or a hollow piont? i know the cci mini mag works, but what else is there?

At .22 LR velocities, there's virtually no difference between a solid and a hollow point in animal flesh.

Virtually any .22 with a muzzle velocity about 1,200 fps will work just fine. It's whatever's most accurate in YOUR firearm that's important. Just know that, except for the squirrels, one-shot kills are are not dependable unless they are head shots or heart shots.

I can't hunt with a semi auto in PA. I wouldn't use it any way. I have a Savage mark II for hunting. I use blazer or federal bulk packs. Never had an issue with tree rats not dieing.

Yep. Plus hollow pOInts tend to have more feed or even loading the mag issues

I agree that a HP usually doesn't have enough flesh mass to open up a .22 rimfire HP bullet on any small critters but the beaver or larger animal may be large enough to make the HP more deadly. IMHO.

I have used Remington Yellow Jackets with the trucated cone bullet configuration in my Remington bolt action rifle and they are devistating on gophers just about anywhere you hit them. A only confirmed gopher kill are ones left on the ground and not wounded to crawl into their hole to die. Don't use the Remington ammo in your 15-22. I have used it in MY 15-22 and to my suprise it did feed but I didn't use it that much to tell if it would be a reliable feeder which I doubt it would/will be. The Remington Yellow Jacket isn't that accurate even my Rem 541S which is way more accurate than my 15-22.

I use Winchester 36 grain copper plated hollow points on squirrels. It has been my experience that hollow points do a better job, with more one shot kills. They definitely leave a larger exit wound. I shoot for the chest cavity. When I used solids had problems with crawl offs.
They feed through my gun just fine - never a problem - works for me.

CCI subsonics.....devastating out to 50 yards out of my 15-22. Haven't had a limb rat that survived the first shot as of yet.
In person the slower velocity seems to deliver alot more impact to me. On the occasional chest shot they will actually push their innards out.
They will completely penetrate 8" of gel at that range with no problem.

One neck shot one dead coon two nights ago with cci 40 gr. tac ammo. 1200 fps claimed velocity.

quick update

so for my new hunting load, im using more than likely the cci velocitor for stuff such as coons, foxes, coyotes, and nutria. for everything else, the .40 gr blazer will work for my needs. the flight characteristics are very similar, and my bsa sweet 22 scope uses the 40 gr turrent. thanks guys!
