shield failure to fire update.

Earlier this week I reported I had 2 ftf. In 125 rds. I was using wwb. A lot suggested it may have been the ammo. So today I took the Shield. Shot 220 rds of federal champion 115 gr. And stoked to report zero failures.
+ this ammo was more reliable and more accurate then wwb. I also shot some of my carry ammo federal hst 124 gr + p

I dont use WWB that much other than to test it out on a new firearm for the heck of it. My primary range ammo is Federal Champion and like you I have zero failures of any kind with 1000+ rounds through my Shield (with several other brands tried as well).

I've also used speer lawman and that's been good as well

I've put like 300 wwb through it, few boxes of the feds and a box of tulammo and it has eaten it all. Though I really liked the feds last time so I'll probably stick with those since they seem cleaner. Plus, wally's always sold out of the wwb.

Walmart Federal Champion (I've been told there is a difference) always failed in my Nano. If you can shoot it in your Shield you have a good firearm.

I think of WWB as the bottom of the bulk ammo at this point. You may go through a hundred packs of the stuff with no fails. But then you finally find one with the bullets all munged up and finally get what people are complaining about in that stuff. I haven't heard any complaints about Federal Champion or Speer Lawman other than the price. But I would never take any WWB to a competition, training, or any other event that I hadn't at least dumped out to at least glance at for boogers in the box.

I ran Federal Champion through my Shield with no problems. My Shield also fed other brands with no FTF's - Black Hills, Blazer, Gold Dot and Federal Hydra-Shok. Very pleased that my Shield likes a wide variety of ammo and is not 'picky'.

I used to have problems with Winchester but never any with Rem and Fed.

The Fed Champs had been consistent with 9mm and 40sw. They're my fav range rounds.

There is no 100% reliable ammunition.

I have seen FTF on all sorts of "factory" premimum grade ammo. Primers come through with defects here and there also.

Condemning the weapon at this stage is really unfair and unrealistic. My best shooting buddy had a brand new box of Hornady .357 with 2 of the rounds that jumped crimp and jammed his 686 up.

Oh well **** happens. That is why we know how to clear misfires.

So far, I've put 200 WWB rounds through my Shield without a hitch, but I do prefer Federal--Wally World only had the WWB though.

I just bought 4 boxes (100) of new Rem Golden Sabers (124gr) from a friend for $35, so I'll shoot 75 and report back. I normally carry Federal HST/Winchester Ranger due to the price/value of the 50rd boxes, but I had good experiences with the 102gr Golden Sabers in .380...so I'm fine carrying these until I get other stuff.

I am no expert, but I have read that Federal rounds tend to have softer primers.

Funny, apparently YMMV. I've never had a single failure to feed or fire with several thousand rounds of WWB through several different handguns.

With that many clocks you shouldn't have any trouble knowing what time it is.On the other hand I can't believe a shield failed to shoot any kind of ammo.Heck all the reviews I have read on them report they are the best most reliable easiest to carry,easiest to shoot,the most accurate handgun ever made.So I just can't see them failing to be 100% reliable with any kind of ammo.

But have you fired WWB through a Shield? Maybe the Shield has a lighter firing pin and can't handle anything less than premium ammo reliably.

Nope, no Shield. M&P9C and M&P9FS, Beretta M92 FS, 3913 and 3913LS.

Firing pin/striker weight and velocity is always a balance. Add hammer weight and velocity in there and you can see why primer manufacturers must walk a tight rope between being too sensitive and not sensitive enough.

I don't buy Federal from Wal-mart, as I have had issues in Beretta 92s. Others at the Beretta Forum reported the same thing. Quit using it and went to other ammo. NEVER another problem.


I've put about 650 rounds of WWB thru my shield (I have 1045 rounds thru my Shield). Nary a problem.

I bought 300 rds today to go shoot my Shield. 200 federal and 1000 wwb curious to see if I have problems again with wwb. Or last box was just a bad. Box. I don't think it was the actual gun customer it's been impressive besides. Those two stops. Even the trigger feels broken in
