I know there was some comments after a 19 sold for quite a bit a few weeks ago, but it seems to me its gone crazy now.
I see most now wanting high 6-8 hundred, several for 1000-1200 ,is it me, or has anyone else noticed it. If I didnt like mine so much 1000- 1200 would see it fly out the door.
Wanted a nother nice 2.5 but not at 1200. How long till it cools off ?. Bob

Bob, yeah I have noticed the prices being way too high on the M19's. I have been looking for a M19-3, 4" nickel, in very good to excellent conditon. The lowest price I have found is $650, just the gun no box. I looked at one over the weekend in Fla, guy wanted $925, but would go as "low" as $875. It is an election year so maybe the prices will drop some after the first of the year. In the mean time, I will keep looking.

I got excited cause I saw a 2.5" 19 for sale on a auction site, that was located in Los Angeles area. Real nice gun. So I contacted the guy, no problem.FTF. I watched the auction, way beyond my price and still hadnt hit the reserve. Then I see the same gun for sale on a couple other spots for 1200. I believe in free enterprise and supply and demand, prices for nice guns run a little higher here in CA. UGH! But Geez ! I would barely pay that for my grail gun, Horton,19-7 3".

I also have the original box, cleaning rod and screwdriver. Also, a used gun dealers tag that was tied to the trigger gaurd.

I just picked up a Model 19-5, replacement Pachmayr grips that appear to be as old as the gun . . . no box, great condition - just a bit of holster wear. Lock up as good as any revolver I have ever touched. It belonged to our former sheriff, who passed last year and a local gun shop was disposing of his guns for his estate. $500 out the door, tax and all. I put 100 rounds through it that day - a real tack driver. Even my daughter was shooting well with it. It is my sixth S&W revolver . . . I think I need more!

You will only see prices like that on Gunbroker were lazy buyers with money to burn will drive up the prices. I dont see prices like that much out in the real world. I bought a 4" nickel 19-4 recently F2F for $450, and could have got a 6" blue 19-3 for $350 if I wanted to drive 2.5 hours each way (I didnt).

I dont think the election has anything to do with it. The "Obama is going to take our guns" lunatic fringe are not pining for revolvers which use expensive ammo, they are going after plastic guns in 9 and 40 with cheap ammo.

Although I will say that $400 seems to be about the minimum going rate for a 19 in any shootable condition

My problem is location - I live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia - only a few gunshops and not a lot of choices . . . lots of gunshops in Virginia and Maryland - but with the need to add an FFL cost and shipping to the purchase price makes things a tad more expensive than if I lived somewhere else. The $500 (including tax) I paid was well worth it to me . . . and it was going to a great sheriff's widow, so I had no problem with the price.

Two Recently Purchased Model 19-3's

I recently gave $495 for the 4" Model 19-3, and $595 for the 6" Model 19-3 at two different area gun shops. One reason I believe the prices are high on these is the fact they don't make this type of gun any more, beautiful blue finish, no locks or MIM parts, and they still come with nice factory wood GA grips. I have a line on a nice 2 1/2" Model 19-3 I hope to acquire soon to finish off my set of the 3 different barrels the Model 19-3's came with. I also think the forum has also generated alot of interest in Model 19's.

I'll second nipsters reply: there's plenty of shooters out there < $500.

There's a nice nickeled 4" on a local dealers shelf priced $535.
