Installed Troy Rail on 15-22. Thanks Tacticool22

Nice. Me likes.

Does the barrel sit perfectly centered inside the handguard when looking down the muzzle?

I've been wanting to put a Rainier Arms Evo12 on mine, but wanted to know if my Spikes CAR1 would sit centered or even fit inside the handguard.

Thanks

Thanks for the video....I was really wanting to see how this is done....good deal....fiance is gonna kick my butt, but I'm gonna have to order up a new rail system now...lol

I had my friend maintain centering the barrel within the tube as I cinched (tightened) the set screws. It is centered.

Cool, thanks

I asked another member with a Troy rail and he said he couldn't get it centered, but I don't think he was using Tacticool22's adapter. If it can be done, I'll do it.

so is that a common problem with just the Troy rails or can I expect that with any rail I decided to install?

I think it's more about the adapter you use. Not sure though.

Most I've seen put the barrel low inside the handguard making it look like the barrel is drooping.

TacticalTom's is the best I've seen yet.

I am planning on ordering the adapter from Tacticool22, so hopefully I won't face that issue

Great video Tom. Thanks for making it.
I don't know what other adapters are out there, or what people are modifying to make the hand guard off center.
My adapter is centered within .003 (less than the thickness of a piece of paper) from the inside threads to the outside threads.
Most screw on free float hand guards are around that same concentricity.
With the hand guard Tom put on you have the barrel, an adapter another adapter then the hand guard. The tolerances will stack up, but you would never see that and it would be tough to measure.

Good info Tacticool22.

Here's one of the rifles I was refering to. It's about 3/4 of the way down (post 2791). I sent a pm to him and he said it's not centered at all. He's from Thailand so I'm not sure what adapter he used, but he did say it was the problem. I'm just glad to see centering the barrel in the handguard can be done.

I'll be ordering some parts and tools soon Jody.

Part of the look could be the shadowing and the groove in the rail to lighten the picatinny rail.
There is not much to keep the rail from moving on their supplied nut other than the pinch point where the two screws squeeze everything together. (Hope I worded that right)
The rail is on center where it attaches to the barrel, but it may have tilted.
Now I see why Tom needed a 2nd set of hands to make sure the hand guard was not tilted one way or the other.
Hand guards that screw on will not have that "problem"

That's one thing about the Troy rail that I think is inefficient, it only has one tab on the side of the receiver to prevent loosening. I guess one could twist it back toward the receiver while tightening the clamp screws.

I still think the Samson/Rainier Evo is more effective since it uses a pair of sleeves that go on top of the grooves of a standard AR15 barrel nut. The sleeves are machined to interface with the handguard to prevent rotation. Additionally, the handugard has two tabs that go on either side of the upper receiver to also prevent rotation.

i have both a samson, and troy alpha, you can't go wrong with either...

now, if only we can get tacticool to make an all-in-one adapter barrel nut :D :D

I thought I do.
Do you mean to go from the 15-22 barrel to the Troy or Samson nut adapter for their rails.
I'm already in a very small niche market and to make a special nut like that would be expensive and sell veeerrrryyyy slowly. Plus each one is different and they already supply the adapter.
I usually don't like compromise, but on this I had to.

Thank you. I need all the help I can get to grow this business from small to something like Duck Dynasty. But without the cameras.
