Very strange, in fact.

I load up the new 15 sport for it's first trip to
the range since installing, the new riser, scope mount
and scope. I set my target at 50 yds.
I fire a starter round that hits near the bottom
of my target. Then, aiming again in the middle
I adjust my scope to align the crosshairs up with the
hole my first shot made, and fire a second round
which hits less than an inch away.

Two shot, no bore sighter, no hassle. Done.
After that she was freakin tack driver. Unbelievable.

when sighting a rifle, i was never satisfied until i had 5 consecutive in the bull at 100 yrds. many times those 5 would overlap. and that usually took me no more than 15 rounds.

It actually took me 9 rounds to zero my BUIS on my Sport and I have old eyes. :D The rifle is remarkably accurate for not having a dust cover or FA.;)

what would the dust cover and FA have to do with accuracy ?

That was sarcasm of the highest order.

In case you aren't aware, the Sport is regularly rogered roundly for not having either a dust cover or a forward assist.

LOL! Amazing isn't it?

I think this has become my favorite rifle...hell, favorite firearm I own period.

I guess I am missing something.

On your 2nd shot...you "take aim at that hole" and adjusted the scope to it. If you aimed at the hole....your crosshairs would already be on the hole....what was there to adjust? Touching the turrets would move your crosshairs off of the hole.

Actually what you do is take aim at the same spot as the first shot, such as the bulls eye, then while holding there, adjust the crosshairs to line up on the bullet hole. Generally gets you REAL close. In his case, dead on! ;)

Maybe the dust cover and forward assist guys could learn a trick or two from a Sport owner.

That is a great way to sight in a rifle and one that is often forgotten or not understood. Thanks for the reminder. Yeah, sure wish I had that dust cover and FA so I could shoot some better groups. (sarcasm--but nothing against the other 15's that have it. That is what I like here, we are one happy family in support of each other)

I'm actually kind of unhappy with my Sport. :) That got your attention, eh? I'm unhappy because I'll be picking up another AR in the next couple of months, and I probably won't be able to find another Sport to match the one I have. I may actually have to buy one of those off-brand Colts! Dang... and I wanted an accurate rifle...

Nice to know that (old) method is still being used. I've also strapped into my benchrest used the iron sights to get on paper at 100 yrds, mount the scope, adjust the cross hairs and fine tune from there. Use alot less bullets.

I know what to do....I was hoping to get the OP to revisit his posting and correct it so that someone else, such as a new shooter, wouldn't read the bad info and spend all day at the range chasing a zero and wasting ammo.
