Deranged and evil people will always do deranged and evil things and there is nothing we can do to stop it, short of creating a society none of us would want to live in. Is this guy deranged or is he evil? I don't know. I would guess deranged or perhaps a bit of both, but it doesn't really matter.
Remember Charles Whitman in the 60's? As I recall he did about the same damage with a bolt rifle and some other stuff. Remember McVeigh and Nichols in Oklahoma? They used fertilizer and fuel and killed many more. In the 1920's some guy in Michigan killed something like 40 school kids with dynamite.
Just because the anti-gun people are going to go all nuts and try to use this to their advantage (before the blood is dry) does not mean we should go nuts too.
Was this a government conspiracy? Oh, Please! Don't jump on the crazy train. Some guy did a terrible thing. To compound this, now some people will try to capitalize on the event to make money, garner fame or advance a personal or political goal.
We have seen it before. We will see it again.
By the way, while I oppose the "no gun" policies of the movie theater chains, I have to think in this case, with tear gas or some other chemical in the air, a panicked crowd and a shooter in ballistic gear, there is not much a lawfully armed citizen could have done unless they were in just the right spot with a suitable gun and better than average ability to keep steady in a stressful situation.
