Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on my idea.

I was looking into getting a red dot, maybe add a magnifier as well to be able to see targets 100+ yards out.

I went back out to the range today and tried out a few peoples different set-ups Rifle scopes, red dot, reflex etc..

I realized I like using the different sights.

Im thinking of making it simple and getting quick disconnect rail mounts. Then I can have a high zoom scope, and red dot sight and use my plain iron sights. Just pop on what I feel like using.

Ive read Larue mounts are best and keep things at zero, they are pricey though. Have to see if any budget ones keep zero.

In my head this is a good idea, How these mounts work in reality is a different story.
Do any of you use quick-off scope mounts? Can you share your thoughts on them.

I plan on shooting the gun more and trying as many scopes/sights as people will let me before I pull the credit card out, which is still smoking from the gun/mags/ammo etc.. just trying to figure out what I wanna do

Bobby,
I ran a site search for "quick release scope mount" and came up with this:
Smith & Wesson Forum - Search Results
You can always refine the search to be more specific for your needs. I've sees this brought up from time to time...I believe Oneeye has a quick release on one of his rifles. I'm sure he'll chime in here soon.

I have the UTG QR LEO Mounts on the Bushnell Banner on my green rifle. So far they have done real well I did have to adjust the locking mechanism to where it is pretty stiff in order to get them to hold zero but they have done that. The height of them did require a 1/2" riser for me to attain a good comfortable sight picture but that could be just me. They are the ones that on the package state for Law Enforcement and Military use and are good, solid, well made mounts with a solid latch mechanism that is easy to adjust.

I use the UTG LEO mounts on a different rifle. They always return to zero and stay solid. Only $20 from Amazon. They had both 30mm and 1 inch in different heights.

I use QR mounts on both my AR's. My 223 wears a red dot in an American Defense mount, and the 6.8 uses a Larue Riser with some Browning rings. Always nice to be able to use a set of BUIS if needed. Though Larue tends to have the better name recognition, I actually like the AD mounts better. They are easier to adjust and have full length contact with the rails.

I also use the UTG mounts and if you're going to "mix-and-match", make sure you mount your sights in the same spot on your rails that you zeroed them in on. (Thanks oneyeopn) I shoot a red dot and a scope. I used my wife's nail polish to mark them to the rail. Different color of course.

Ok no more teasing about my rifles being over the top!!! Did you look at these beautiful rifles. I really like the fixed buttstocks and the blue anodized upper and lower, fluted barrels, wow. If I may ask can you show a spec sheet for them?
Thank You for showing these to us. I really want one of those buttstocks on my Cybersport. Plus you need a Matech to replace that Magpul rear sight. LOL

So think I may have setup figured out.
Will get a good quick off rail riser and put Leupold quick off bases on it.

That way I can use it on multiple guns and the scopes pop on and off the Leupold bases. So pop rail off the mp sport. Put on 22 and swap to 22's scope. Trying to figure out if I can find a quick off for a red dot that fits in leupold base. That'd make to easy though

I have leupold scope mounts on a couple of my Mausers. I dont really see how you are going to make it work easier and quicker than standard QD mounts but when you do please post pictures.

Thanks. I love the Ace stocks, hope to have one on my 522 soon. One of the best things about them is that the foam doesn't ever feel hot or cold. I hunt with the 6.8, and on a cold morning there is nothing worse than putting your cheek to a freezing piece of plastic.

223 is a M&P lower with a Vltor MUR-1A upper. Started off with stripped receivers and built them up myself. 18" Sabre stainless fluted barrel. Young bolt carrier assembly. Troy rail. Nordic Corvette comp. Ace stock. KNS pins. HK style front and rear sights.

6.8 started as a stripped Sun Devil matched upper and lower receivers. Bison stainless barrel was cut to 14.5", pinned and welded R3E2C comp (barrel work done by ADCO). Young SP1 bolt carrier (no forward assist so no need for a carrier with notches). JP forearm. Ace Stock. KNS pins. YHM folding gas block/front sight. I like the Magpul rear alright.

Reason I going with a QD riser with the QD Base on top of that is I also want to add a scope to my ruger 10/22 takedown. Play with that when the M&P is cooling

Bought a nodak spud Iron sight that gives me a rail plus ar-15 like sights, downside is the iron sights are to high for a scope and require riser.

So figured get the QD rail put the Leupold QD base on that and can swap it back and forth between guns and pop scopes on and off.
If was just the M&P I wouldnt need riser.

Not sure how you plan on swapping the optic between two different rifles and expect it to zero on both.

I will have seperate scopes. One for each rifle.
They just pop into the Quick release base on the rail.

Two scopes, ok. Which Leupold QR base will mount directly to a picatinny rail?

How will you mount the base to the rail? Drill and tap the rail?

I like your thinking but I really dont see how the scopes will hold zero between the two when you swap them, It appears and this is just my opinion that you are going to have to do a small amount of rezeroing when you swap them. The problem as I see it will be in getting the bases to mount to exactly the same point of aim between the two rifles. In theory if you can get the relationship between the bases and point of zero of the barrel exactly the same it will work, but as everything man-made has a tolerance, that tolerance may throw a monkey wrench in your plan.

The Scopes Quick-off bases are affixed to the rail, they will never move and scope rings snap into them. the Quick-Off riser would be only thing to put back into place.

But I think im scrapping the leupold idea.
After figuring cost be better off just doing the quick off riser and regular scop mounts for 10/22 and then get the M&P own quick off mount. Maybe this one.
Burris AR-P.E.P.R. Mount

I wasn't aware of (and can't find) any Leupold bases that attach to rails. They are made to fit particular rifles. I've looked through Leupold's site and just can't find any made to fit picatinny rails. It is a good idea, I just don't think the bases are made for that application.

Your right, I was assuming they attached to rails.

But went and looked again.
