Survived NYNY

NY NY the town so nice, they have to name it twice.
Lived there 7 years in the middle of the City, Columbus Circle and miss it every day.
Would move there in a NY minute, but family and business is in Big D.
There is no place like NYC, it will kick any other cities ***. :D
LOL

Glad you enjoyed your time in NYC, and the boogie man didn't get you. ;) Try to go back around Christmas time, and visit Rockefeller Center, it's an amazing experience

...if you enjoyed NYC...go to San Francisco...it's the only big city I would regret never being able to go back to. The geography...the architecture...and the bay with the bridges is fantastic. Of course the politics suck just like all big cities...and I would only visit...but I will go back whenever I can.

learned that there is a Houston Street but its not pronounced Houston, but instead it pronounced House-ston Street.
If you were at Houston and 6th Ave (Changes to Ave. of the Americas a few blocks north) you were near my old stomping grounds, just go 3 blocks south and 1/2 block west. I lived at 11 Vandam, #3 for a few years, until I got burned out on "NYNY" and "Opposite Side Parking" every morning. Never could sleep past 7:00 AM even on days off with everybody trying to move their cars. I've been back MANY times since the early 90's, when I moved back south. LOVE visiting, I just couldn't bring myself to move back. I still have family and friends that call NYNY home, some who have never been out of "The City" and will probably never make it over a bridge or through a tunnel. Glad you had a good/safe trip.

I used to live about 12 miles from the Lincoln Tunnel. My wife and I went into the city a lot. Always had a good time. Call me crazy but i enjoyed driving in mid-town.
SW CQB45 sounds like you had a good time!

How can anyone afford to live there? My ex and I were there back in 1984. I remember driveing all over looking for a room and the cheapest rat hole was about 4X as much as I paid anywhere else on the trip. First place the desk man said I got nothing right now, ya want ta wait maybe twenty minuets I should have one! Finaly dead tired we got a flea bag and found "fresh evidence" in the bed!
My impression was bad. The freeway looked like the iraq`s had just left kuwait. Many cars stripped alongside the freeway. One place on the freeway a building was over the freeway. As we drove under it I had my elbow out the window and somebody spit on it. Bums and old bag women everywhere. I did drive right by mayor Kock giveing a speech on the street. My impression was people paid as much to live in a rat nest as others would pay to live in a mansion elsewhere. No thanks.

Been there many many times. I live 1.5 hours away in Pa. Like it just wouldn't want to drive there.

I can never just sit in my state or county just because i couldnt carry a gun. I made it to 21 without needing a gun Im sure ill be fine a few days or a week without one. Besides i havent finished my Euro drive yet. Been from France to Sweden in a rental!

I went there in the 70's on business. I went for a walk and a young lady came up to me and asked if I was looking for a date. I told her no, I am looking for a newspaper. She huffed off.

I would never go there today. If I can't carry there, they do not need my money. I have also canceled all credit cards owned by NY banks. I believe in spending my money where my values are respected.

Used to hang in the city during the late 60's. Fillmore East, Electric Circus, Washington Square the Wonder Bar. The coffee houses were a zoo in humanity. Definitely a TRIP.:):)

My daughter lives on the Upper East Side. I've gotten to the point that I can get in and out without too much trouble now. She'll be moving to a different apt. in Oct., so dad has to move her again. You haven't lived until you dragged a dual axle u-haul trailer through Manhattan. Back in the 70's I used to play a bar in Greenwich Village. The city definitely seems cleaner/friendlier now but I'll admit I haven't been back to the Village.

Glad you enjoyed the trip...think about going back in the spring or fall. You could plan several trips and still have lots to see/do.

Great trip report, thanks for posting it. I worked downtown for 18 years, commuting from Long Island, so I have my war stories and badges of honor.
Favorite T-Shirt I ever saw in a shop window:
WELCOME TO NY! now go home

That would be the Cross Bronx Exy. ( North of the GW Bridge) Not really any stripped cars anymore, but whole place ( NYC) is a dump.
