M&P 45 shortage?

Hello all, I have had a M&P 45 on back order for four months now. My dealer tells me none of his suppliers have any and are also backordered. I checked with some other shops and its the same story. I can get one on the net but the transfer fees on top of full retail make it cost prohibitive. Does anyone know if Smith has stopped production on these? Or for some reason not shipping out to wholesalers. I may have to bite the bullet, so to speak and pay the fees.

Virtually every store down here in south Florida has them, the store I got my family from probably had 20+ in stock when I bought mine... Then again this same dealer has always had the shield in both calibers in stock. Idk anyone would get the idea of a shortage.

Good Luck. Last year my agency ordered 48...we got them 7-8 months later. Since that time several agencies have gone to the M&P line of pistols, with Mass State Police choosing the M&P 45...that's about 2500 pistols. I'm just glad we got ours before they had to fill that order.

Keep checking Gunbroker.com, I got mine from Buds Gun Shop on there 2 weeks ago for $530 total. That included cost of gun, shipping and transfer fee. Just have to be patient and keep searching for a deal, they are out there.
I will say though that I live in FL and I called six shops and they were all out before I found mine.

Another +1 for Bud's...I've bought 4 guns from them and they are top notch. I have noticed that many are out of stock on the M&P45 and I'm glad I have mine. I liked my first M&P45 so much I traded for a 2nd one, in FDE. Now I'm after a 45c but those have proven even harder to find locally. Good luck and keep after it!

BTW, there is a used M&P45 on Bud's Gun Shop used section, with night sights if I remember correctly.

Lol, same here... As in they get it from the back room and put the display model back after I'm done fondling it.... I don't know anything about these shortages, then again my LGS almost always has KSGs in stock, SCARs and pretty much any other "hard to get" model... You'll also see some wealthy and famous people in this store, maybe that explains it... Best part about my LGS is the prices are the lowest around, go figure.

Seems kind of high! As a first responder you can buy from Bud's Police and get free shipping. They are in stock for $442 delivered....

I got mine from Buds but from an auction they had on Gunbroker. I knew nothing of their Police side until I called them to set up the transfer and they had an advertisement for the Police Side, which sucked because I could have got it with night sights for what I paid from their normal side. Still $530 for everything on the normal side isn't bad at all. I now have sent them my credentials and will buy from the Police side.

Thanks guys, I am always reluctant to mention I live in Kalifonia. I have to stick with whats on our approved list. I have heard Buds is a good place to check. My dealer said he would do the transfer if I found one.

That sucks, I think they only do limited runs on all the Kommie Kompliant guns, that's why you probably can't find anything.

They're out there, but few & far between. I got lucky & found one locally for about the same price I would have got it had I bought from Buds & had it transfered & resistered here.

Ya the FDEs I believe are made in runs and will be harder to find. I'd probably be looking for one right now except I'll pass cause FDE's aren't made without the safety.

If I were getting it for carry I would prefer it didn't have the safety. If it works out this will be my nightstand and home defense weapon. It will be laying around chambered most of the time so I would rather it have a safety.
