I am at my heart a revolver guy. The only pistols I ever really liked were 1911s.

I bought a 9mm M&P Shield on a whim and it is quickly becoming my favorite. I have about 900 jam free rounds through mine now and I have been pocket carrying it for the last two weeks. I am quite surprised I like this pistol. I have bought plastic guns in the past and I have sold bout 90% of them. My kel-pf9 is not longer necessary, I'll have to sell it now :)

S&W did this one right.

Except for some magazine problems with the Shield 40 these all seem to be a great purchase. I own one of the early ones and have no problems with mine, the mag stays in place and the gun goes through just about any ammo I put through it, but after a bad experience with TulAmmo in my M*P 45 I will never use that ammo again and neither should anyone else, especially for self defense!

My .40 Shield is not my favorite shooting gun, but it is surprisingly pleasant to shoot for a .40 cal in such a small package.

However, in most other respects it may end up being my favorite pistol. Small enough to pocket carry. Thin enough to carry IWB comfortably. Easily concealed when carried OWB. Safety, slide release and mag release all easily manipulated. All of that chambered in .40 cal.

I'm surprised that S&W was able to put all of that in a subcompact. Hard to beat.

I am suprised how much I like my shield 9. Never had a pistol so easy to CC so I do take it places I am not able to CC my Sig 229R which I thought was a pretty small/medium pistol when I first got it. Had seriously thought about buying the Ruger LC9 but after some bad reviews ( every gun gets some ) where the LC9 seemed to have more than average complaints I decided on the shield and have not regretted my purchase at all. While the Ruger LC9 is more a pocket pistol I was afraid it was just too small and recoil might also be a factor. It is not a pistol I will carry when hunting as I have a S&W 629 5 inch which is most used during hunting, berry picking, fishing gun. The shield is my only CC gun though.

I have owned and sold a Kahr CM9 and Beretta Nano and I am done experimenting with concealed carry weapons. My Shield 9mm is my only CCW for good reason. Shoots straight and never fails. What else can you hope for in a pocket gun?

In my previous I corrected as it was a Ruger LC9 I was looking at getting not a PC9. Glad now I picked the Shield.

Not one bit surprised. I bought mine the very first day they became available to the public April 13, 2012.

YES! I am surprised the extended magazine ejects itslef after firing the first three rounds in the magazine. The short mag runs just fine.

How many jams did you have with your wheel guns? Don't have the shield yet. I'll get one next year. Love M&Ps and wheel guns.

I have heard so many conflicting views on the Shield. At times I want to buy one....but a bit hesitant after reading some threads on here and other forums.

I've read reviews from people that like Kahrs better (on the kahr forum) or people that like their glocks better (on the glock forum) and it doesn't surprise me that here on the S&W forum, the shield is a hit. I always take what I read with a grain of salt.

With that being said, only you can judge whether the shield is right for you. What people can't deny is the shield (at least in 9mm) has been 100% dependable for next to everybody.

So why not buy the shield if you're interested? You can always recoup most of your money if it turns out that almost all of the reviews out there are wrong.

I wasn't surprised at all.
19oz is the perfect 'break even' weight to tame the snappy recoil of the lighter weight single stack 9s. S&W did their homework in researching what people DIDN'T like about the other Pocket 9s and didn't let anyone know what they were up to. ;)

I've been pocket carrying mine for a couple Months now. :)
Easy to conceal and enjoyable to shoot. There aren't many who actually say that about the comptition.

They did it ALMOST right. It needs a safety switch on the other side for us southpaws.

I had a blast shooting my new M&P Shield 9mm today at the range for the first time. It shot great. However, the noob shooter has some growing still to do. All in all it still felt right. I think the key was the recommended cleaning I gave it before shooting. For me it really smoothed out that trigger pull. Put about 100 rds through it of both Hornady 135 gr Critical Duty and cheap Blazer 124 gr target ammo. The Shield ripped through both flawlessly. I am stoked and fortunate to have purchased the last one my LGS had in stock a week ago.

Happy Shooting!
