JUST A SMALL RANT...

I'm with the OP on this one. Half the time I can kind of figure out the meaning of them, and the other half of the time, I simply ignore them. Hopefully they weren't an important part of an answer to a question or something I need to know. Maybe they are just a lazy typists way of typing faster. Or maybe if a person types or text a lot of them in a message, and the reader responds correctly to them it somehow makes them seem intelligent to each other.? I would rather read the actual words but that is just me, which probably simply puts me in yet another minority these days. I guess it's (kind of) fun to try to figure out what they mean sometimes, but takes too much brain activity for a simpleton like me.

Back in the day they discovered that intention, a wink, laugh, whatever didn't translate well into text. So LOL, JK, LMAO, etc. was used to mean "I was just kidding" or something like that. Like the emoticons :) ;) and :D would completely change the meaning of a sentence.
 
Seems to me that those who type poorly should learn to type better, and give up on the abbreviations.

It's bad enough trying to figure out what thnx means, without attempting thxn.

When someone means "Please help me, TIA", but types "Plese help me, TAI", you sit there thinking, "What da heck??"

And for y'all that use your phone, for Freya's sake, get a stylus. When "TIA" becomes "T&A", because your fingers are too big for the keys, it really gets confusing.

I have a question. I constanly notice Tags at the bottom of the page, but, I have never seen a post by him/her. WTH is UWT? :rolleyes:
 
I don't know or want to know most of the previously mentioned short hand terms. I do know ***. Sorry old bugger.

I am wracked with such hearty guffaws that in addition to rolling to and fro on the floor, my posterior has separated itself from my body.
