Rem 788, You can't get a refinish at S&W that will match the original, as they no longer reblue using the old formulas. Leave the gun as is, you won't regret that. Ed
I've taken it to the range a few times now and really enjoy shooting it.
Recoil is very manageable.
I just cant get the hang of the sights. The rear is a trough that runs the length of the cylinder. I am used to that from my H&R. But the front is like a half a penny welded to the barrel. There is no clear delineation like you get with a pointy sight. It seems to shoot about 6" low at 25' but I think I just don't understand how to aim it. It does shoot straight though. My first shot was way low so I aimed a bit above the bullseye, then a little higher. Ended up with a straight vertical line of holes leading to the bullseye. The spread between farthest left and right was less than 2 inches.
Ideas?
Dread naught. As mentioned, the 158gr load is what that old gun thrives on.
